Former England striker Gabby Agbonlahor believes Manchester United have the “right man” in Rubén Amorim.
Agbonlahor was impressed with Amorim when he obtained his coaching qualification at the same time as the Portuguese.
United announced the appointment of Amorim on a contract until June 2027 on Friday, with Erik ten Hag’s replacement set to begin work for the club on November 11.
Agbonhlahor has no doubts Amorim, 39, can impress at Old Trafford having led Sporting to two Portuguese league titles.
The former Aston Villa striker told talkSPORT: “I did my coaching badges with him. He was one of those there and you could tell he was so into it that he had to get his badges to start managing. I was very focused.
“Since the beginning of last season, Sporting Lisbon has scored the most goals in the six major leagues, 129 goals.
“They were waiting 19 years to win a title, he goes there and they have won two in the last five seasons.
“He trained only two months in Braga before Sporting Lisbon paid 10 million euros.
“I think when you look at what he has done since he left Braga for Sporting Lisbon, breaking those 19 years without winning a league title, I think Manchester United have the right man.”
