Rubén Amorim asked Manchester United fans for patience and warned that his team “will suffer for a long period” until he gets them to understand his tactics.
United showed flashes of promise in their draw at Ipswich Town, but also showed many bad familiar habits that Amorim admitted will take much longer than a week or two to eliminate.
“It’s hard to wait for anything now,” he said.
‘It’s not a surprise (that the players had problems), but you have to see it in the game. That’s why I was a little anxious.
‘We have to find a way (to convey ideas quickly). The only way to do it is for us to have games and those who don’t play have to train.
‘Without time we have to find the time and that is the only way. Some of the kids will play and the next day some of them will work on our idea. And then they will change the position.
Rubén Amorim admitted that his Manchester United players were “confused” and “scared”
Amorim’s team drew 1-1 against Ipswich in his first game in charge of the club
‘What I understood today is that they are trying, they stay in positions and they received the information and try to use it in the game. That’s very important.
‘Even in the tough times I felt like they were doing the things we told them to do. I know it’s frustrating for the fans, but we’re changing a lot right now with so many games.
‘We are going to suffer for a long period and we will try to win games. This will take time. “I know we have to win games.”
Amorim left Portman Road pragmatic, if not cautiously optimistic, about his players ahead of their appearance at Old Trafford on Thursday night in the Europa League.
It was a view not shared by former Manchester United captain Roy Keane, who lashed out at the Amorim stars after another dysfunctional display.
“This team, over the last year or two, has been built on moments,” he said.
“United sat back and you thought: ‘What are you waiting for?’ Go after them!’
‘They seemed afraid to go ahead and win the game. They lacked confidence and faith.

‘Do I think they have the quality to be in the top four again? At all. The evidence is not there. It’s the same as always. Predictable and with a real lack of quality.’
One player that Amorim highlighted and praised was United’s player of the match, Andre Onana, who made two heroic saves to deny Liam Delap two sure goals.
“I think it’s very clear to everyone, he saved us at least twice,” he said.
“One important thing was that he used to make a lot of long balls but he tried to connect with the players and that was very good for me. He understood the idea, he did a great job.”
