Members of the royal family hope the Duke and Duchess of Sussex will be “sitting in Iceland” if they attend the coronation service as expected.
Harry and Meghan have been invited and are expected to attend the event on May 6, but many family members are privately telling friends they will give them “the chill”.
Palace officials consider the Sussexes’ children too young to attend the ceremony at Westminster Abbey, but the couple will likely spend part of the day with Archie, who turns four on May 6, and Lilibet, now called Prince and Princess. while celebrating their son’s birthday.
Harry and Meghan will not be invited to participate in the official balcony appearance and many family members do not wish to socialize with the couple.
A family friend said: ‘Many relatives will turn their backs on you. One told me, “I hope they’re sitting in Iceland.”

Many in the Royal Family are now preparing for the arrival of the Sussexes in less than two months as the countdown to the Coronation continues.
The couple are expected to stay at Frogmore Cottage during their visit.

The lease on their home on the Windsor property expires at the end of March, but they have been allowed to keep it running for a few months while they sort through their belongings and arrange for their shipment to California.
Last week, Harry and Meghan revealed that their children would be using the titles Prince and Princess when they announced that their daughter Lilibet had been christened at Montecito. As grandsons of a reigning monarch, young Sussexes are entitled to rank. After hearing that this was the Sussexes’ wish, Royal’s official website updated their titles accordingly. It is believed that Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet will also be able to use their ‘HRH’ status in the future.
While Harry agreed not to use his title of His Royal Highness for stepping down from royal duties, his children could still adopt theirs. Similarly, Prince Andrew has said that he will not use SAR, but his daughters Beatrice and Eugenie have the right to do so.
Palace sources say that while the Sussexes will not appear on the balcony as part of the Coronation, there was discussion about whether they would take part in other events related to the celebrations.
