Meghan Markle’s complaints about the cold reception she received in the UK have been criticised by a royal expert. The Duchess of Sussex, who reportedly had a “bad experience” in the country after marrying Prince Harry, recalls the lavish wedding ceremony and warm reception she initially enjoyed.
Michael Cole told GB News“Weren’t they welcomed in this country? Look how welcomed they were.” He continued: “She had a very bad time. Well, I’m sure that’s a surprise to the 20 people who gathered in Windsor Great Park and cheered them on their wedding day.”
The royal commentator highlighted the Sussexes’ initial positive reception, saying: “The Sussexes have been greeted by the media as a breath of fresh air and a welcome addition to the Royal Family. You wonder what they have to worry about – there they are, living in California, in a hilltop fortress, with two beautiful, healthy children. They have lots of friends, lots of money, lots of accolades, lots of fame and lots of interesting things to do.”
This comes as Newsweek editor Batya Ungar-Sargon discussed Meghan and Harry’s popularity in the UK during an interview with TV presenter Nana Akua on GBN AmericaUngar-Sargon commented: “They represent in America the empty, vacuous, rich, preachy, conceited type of person who also thinks he is better than everyone else, but the only thing that makes him better is that he is rich. That is what they represent in America. It is the worst type of celebrity who became famous without having achieved anything on his own.”
The ongoing debate over Meghan and Harry’s reception and current status in the US highlights the complex public perception of the couple, both in the UK and across the Atlantic. While some see them as victims of a hostile media environment and royal expectations, others see them as the embodiment of superficial celebrity culture.
