ROYAL ASCOT DAY TWO TIPS: Bashkirova has the power to lower the colours of Mother Earth
ROYAL ASCOT DAY TWO TIPS: Bashkirova has the power to lower the colors of Mother Earth… while Love can conquer all for America
- Sportsmail tipster SAM TURNER gives his opinion for day two at Royal Ascot
- Bay Bridge impressed in its warm-up win in the Brigadier Gerard Stakes
- Bashkirova was too powerful for her rivals during her last run in Epsom
- Rebel Territory rode to victory in its comeback at Sandown last month
Sportsmail’s expert tipster, Sam Turner, gives his verdict ahead of day two at Royal Ascot.
2.30: LOVE REIGNS comes from an American trainer who has won this race four times and he rates this year’s runner on par with those champions. The American raider overcame a slow start on the debut at Keeneland to take out her rivals from the corner and register a nearly 10-length romp, and she’d be tough to beat if that blistering pace can be harnessed. The choice of the home contingent seems dramatized and her form at Newmarket has subsequently improved.
Selection: LOVE REGENT
Bay Bridge showed a lot of promise in its warm-up victory in the Brigadier Gerard Stakes
3.05: Nahanni represents Derby form here and, given the pre-race fireworks that would have affected him, he still put in a creditable race. That was only 11 days ago, so he is begrudgingly overlooked for BALTIC BIRD. The roster galloped through last time to lift a Yarmouth girl in good style. The form of Eldar Eldarov’s win in Newcastle has been excellent.
Selection: BALTIC BIRD
Danger: ELDAR ELDAROV
3.40: The case for BAY BRIDGE is compelling and he warmed up to this event by adding another win to Sir Michael Stoute’s Brigadier Gerard collection. That five-length success suggested we are yet to see the best of Bay Bridge. There was plenty to like about Shahryar’s tenacious win in Dubai last time and he could well get Bay Bridge in trouble.
Selection: BAY BRIDGE
Bashkirova (above) was too powerful for her rivals during her last time out at Epsom last month
4.20: BASHKIROVA stayed too strong for her rivals last time and while she would prefer the ground a little calmer, today’s conditions are unlikely to be any faster than in Epsom. The hope is high that she can lower the colors of Mother Earth.
Danger: MOTHER EARTH
5.00: REBEL TERRITORY made its comeback in Sandown and was a cozy winner. It took him a while to fill his frame, but this test should be ideal for a horse that travels heavily. Astro King did not enjoy the race behind Redarna in Thirsk and should almost match last year’s good performance here.
Selection: REBEL TERRITORY
Danger: ASTRO KING
5.35: MEHMAR has chased Norfolk Stakes, favorite The Antarctic, Coventry Stakes fancy Blackbeard and Lady Tilbury, a lively contender for today’s Queen Mary Stakes. He could beat his odds with a stiff 5f that probably fits.
Selection: MEHMA (nap)
Rebel Territory (above) rode to victory in its comeback at Sandown last month
6.10: SPIRIT OF THE BAY is a tentative suggestion based on a nice one-mile straight-track ride here last time. Fellow filly Improvised stood out by paying close attention to Musselburgh.
Selection: SPIRIT OF THE BAY
