ROYAL ASCOT DAY THREE TIPS: Kyprios tuned up for top prize… while Mukaddamah has plenty of promise

ROYAL ASCOT DAY THREE TIPS: Young pretender Kyprios looks good to take the top prize… while Mukaddamah holds many promises

  • Sportsmail tipster SAM TURNER gives his opinion for day three at Royal Ascot
  • Gold Cup hopes Kyprios looked like a keeper at Navan and Leopardstown soon
  • Mukaddamah stands out in a small field in the Group 2 Ribblesdale Stakes
  • Israr was an expert winner of a prestigious Newbury handicap last time

Sportsmail’s expert tipster, Sam Turner, gives his verdict ahead of day three at Royal Ascot.

2.30: WALBANK formed promisingly on its debut at this venue behind Noble Style and enjoyed a resounding success in York last time. He’s tackling notable competition in undefeated Irish foal The Antarctic, but the stiff five furlongs should suit the roster. Bakeel is respected, while Crispy Cat must avoid his chances.

Selection: WALBANK

3.05: Only one winner of a single-digit draw in the last 10 years (Hukum in 2020) suggests it’s fine to be drawn wide, so ISRAR, a skilled winner of a prestigious Newbury handicap of over 10f last time, may be the answer. As long as he is in battle and returning home, he has the pedigree and class to take on a major challenge. Two that look attractively handled are Mandobi and Balhambar.

Selection: ISRAR

3.40: A small field, but a tricky puzzle with preference for MUKADDAMAH based on her price. The roster formed with a lot of promise over what seemed an inadequate 10f in Newbury, but with winner Nashwa going on to do well in the Oaks and runner-up Stay Alert winning since then, the form looks useful.

4.20: An intriguing Gold Cup with young pretender KYPRIOS showing up to establish himself as a true Group One keeper, as Stradivarius tries to sign off with a historic fourth win in Royal Ascot’s big event. Kyprios was only weeks old when Stradivarius took his first win in this race, which says a lot about the durability of the latter. Kyprios, however, seemed like a keeper with speed at Navan and Leopardstown and may just have too much for Stradivarius. Burning Victory appeals from the outsiders.

Selection: KYPRIOS

5.00: ATRIUM is 2-2 on this track and signaled its improvement with a smooth three length win here from a subsequent winner last time. His come-from-behind style and ability to travel serve him well and he makes some appeal at a decent price. Saga seems to have been targeting this race all season, while Whoputfiftyinyou did a lot wrong in Haydock but still won cleanly and is progressing quickly.

Selection: ATRIUM (nap)

5.35: REACH FOR THE MOON faces just five rivals and he’s going to take a beating if we’re to believe the reports at home. Once considered a Derby hope, his career hasn’t gone according to plan, but this is an ideal chance to get back on track. Perhaps Claymore will improve as he travels and he could be the biggest threat to the roster.

6.10: VAFORTINO impressed when he landed the Victoria Cup here on his second start to new connections. His stable has had a good run of late and his rider has returned from an absence in excellent shape. Chiefofchiefs, a veteran with these kinds of disabilities, should be competitive with a bit of fortune.

Selection: VAFORTINO
