ROYAL ASCOT DAY FIVE TIPS: Power to reckon with despite low draw in sprint… while Hurricane Lane can bounce back strongly from lay-off

  • Sportsmail tipster SAM TURNER gives his opinion for day five at Royal Ascot
  • Noble Truth could hardly have been more impressive in Newmarket’s win
  • Charlie Appleby’s Creative Force has won two of its three races at the venue
  • St Leger winner Hurricane Lane is clearly in form but has been out for 258 days

Sportsmail’s expert tipster, Sam Turner, gives his verdict ahead of day five at Royal Ascot.

2.30: Alfred Munnings quickly became a favorite for this after winning on debut, but that victory was achieved in a modest time. In contrast, FINN’S CHARM won well in Musselburgh in a very respectable time and offers more value. Faisal Road caught the eye of Yarmouth.

Selection: FINN’S CHARM

Danger: FAISAL GONE

3.05: NOBLE TRUTH may not have beaten much at Newmarket in April but could hardly have been more impressive. Seven furlongs on fast terrain look his optimum conditions. Star Girls Aalmal posted a career best in the Irish 1,000 Guineas and should appreciate this drop in the journey.

Selection: NOBLE TRUTH

Danger: STAR GIRLS AALMAL

3.40: St Leger winner and Arc third HURRICANE LANE is the clear form choice but has been out for 258 days. Solid Stone has appeared as if a move to 12f could bring further improvement, while Broome should be sharper for its comeback.

Selection: hurricane track

Danger: SOLID STONE

4.20: Stall one may not be ideal for CREATIVE FORCE, but he won two of the three races today. Given that Home Office had the quality to beat runaway King’s Stand winner Nature Strip two starts ago, he could take a beating in this sprint.

Selection: CREATIVE POWER

Danger: HOME AFFAIRS

5.00: Rohaan picked FRESH in this event 12 months ago, but the roster may take revenge as he seems to be in better shape than his old opponent. Tabdeed ran a fine race last time in defeat at Haydock and would appreciate racing back over course and distance.

Selection: FRESH

Danger: TABDEED

5.35: Trainer George Boughey landed his first Royal Ascot winner this week with Inver Park and his Missed The Cut has a live shot in this one after two smooth wins. However, HONITON let it be known that he is a class act with a big maiden win at Sandown. Falling Shadow stormed to Newbury and gives Godolphin a strong hand.

Selection: HONITON

Danger: FALLING SHADOW

6.10: The prospect of thunderstorms will be music to Trueshan’s connections after he missed Thursday’s Gold Cup due to fast ground. His participation is dependent on significant rain. CALLING THE WIND came in second in this race last year and he should strip fitter for his recent comeback after an inadequate journey.
