Rove McManus and Tasma Walton raise their daughter without gender stereotypes

The Rove McManus actress’s wife, Tasma Walton, reveals the couple are raising their eight-year-old daughter, Ruby, to be free of gender stereotypes.

Tasma Walton and Rove McManus have revealed that their young daughter is growing up without being forced to conform to stereotypical ideas about gender.

The former Home and Away star, 48, shares Ruby, eight, with television comedian Rove McManus, who is also 48.

The couple, who have been married for 13 years, try to keep their home free from ‘boy and girl’ stereotypes.

Tasma counts this week star magazine that the idea first came about when a classmate told Ruby that blue was a ‘boy’s color’.

‘We’re telling our little girl, ‘That’s silly, isn’t it? Nobody has the property of a color. Anyone can like whatever color he wants,” she said.

“Parents of young children should have those conversations too,” Tasma added.

The star went on to explain that she is not limited to the types of toys or activities her daughter enjoys.

“It’s a fine line to walk between acknowledging the reality of the ‘guidelines’ that we have in society, but also trying to give her the courage and excitement of knowing she’s not bound by those perceived rules,” she said.

‘Since the choices you make do not harm anyone else or any other living being, then you can do and be whoever you want.’

Rove and his TV star wife, who grew up in Geraldtown, Western Australia, married in 2009 and the couple have a son.

The media personality is best known for her weekly late-night talk show Rove Live on Network Ten.

The popular segment ran from 1999-2009 before moving to the US to host Rove LA on Fox8 from 2011-2012.

He recently returned to television with guest spots on The Project.

In 2020, the couple bought a $2 million home in Perth, after completing renovations on their $6.4 million mansion in Sydney’s Bronte.
