Transgender professional wrestling star and former All Elite Wrestling Women’s World Champion Nyla Rose is banned from competing in the state of Oklahoma after the state’s athletic commission classified her match last December as intergender.

Rose won a two-minute match on AEW television last December taped in Oklahoma City against a cisgender woman. He was born a man and has made the transition, competing in the company’s women’s division since the promotion’s inception in 2019.

The Oklahoma State Athletic Commission, which regulates all combat sports in the state, prohibits intergender competition encompassing boxing, mixed martial arts and professional wrestling.

Rose’s wrestling license in the state is registered as female, but the athletic commission determined her match was a violation of state rules.

The commission decided to warn AEW not to have Rose face a competitor again within state borders, or “punitive measures will be taken against them,” according to Fox 25.

AEW CEO Tony Khan recently responded to the actions taken against Rose.

“This surprised me a lot,” Khan said. “It wasn’t something I expected and of course I was disappointed with the commission’s position and that warning. I don’t think we did anything wrong. I’m really disappointed and surprised by it.

“I don’t think there should be discrimination against transgender wrestlers or transgender people at all and, you know, they have rights and to that end, I absolutely support Nyla Rose. AEW supports Nyla Rose and all transgender people who want to play sports and this is wrestling.” Khan continued.

Rose competed in a match to crown the inaugural AEW Women’s Champion, losing to Riho, but ultimately defeated the high-flying Japanese to win the belt.

Rose is a former AEW Women's Champion and held the title for over 100 days during 2020.

Khan did not say whether Oklahoma’s warning would prevent him from performing shows in the state in the future.

“She deserves the same opportunities as everyone else,” Khan said. “And if the AEW locker room, which is made up of people from all over the world, from all kinds of different backgrounds, from different beliefs, if everyone in the locker room can embrace Nyla, I hope the Oklahoma Commission can do the same. .’

After Khan went viral, Rose thanked him personally on social media.

‘Thank you @TonyKhan, thank you @AEW, always grateful. Always proud,” Rose said in X.
