Rory Mcllroy didn’t hold back during the chat with fellow golfer Patrick Cantlay, mentioning the US players ad***.

Mcllroy also shed new light on his Ryder Cup feud involving Cantlay’s caddy, Joe LaCava, which led to the Northern Irishman shouting expletives and being restrained in the car park.

“This is what made me angry,” McIlroy told the newspaper Irish independent. “My relationship with Cantlay is average at best. ‘We don’t have much in common and we see the world very differently.’

“And they’re trying to defuse the situation, but I’m starting to get them,” McIlroy added.

“Joe LaCava used to be a nice guy when he caddyed for Tiger, and now he’s caddying for that son of a bitch, he’s turned into a… I still wasn’t in a good mood.”

McIlroy, who admitted this was not his ‘finest moment’, also revealed that Tiger Woods reached out after the incident at Marco Simone Golf & Country Club in Rome.

“I quickly texted him,” McIlroy added. “I’ll be fine… long day… I just want to go to bed.”

McIlroy had to be bundled into a car by teammate Shane Lowry earlier this year amid astonishing scenes.

The 34-year-old was furious as LaCava stood in his line of sight, twirling his cap as he tried to line what would have been a game-saving putt.

Cantlay was jeered all day by the home fans for allegedly refusing to wear his USA cap in protest at not being paid to play. After McIlroy confronted Cantlay’s tasman on the green, tempers boiled again in the parking lot.
