The Northern Irishman, a friend of Rory McIlroy and born from the same Holywood golf club as the world number 3, has been the target of Jon Rahm’s Legion VIII.

The proposed change will raise eyebrows in the sport, as the 22-year-old secured one of the 10 cards for the PGA Tour in November through his results on the DP World Tour.

McKibbin, ranked 110th in the world and having already won a professional title, has also been identified by European captain Luke Donald as a future Ryder Cup player.

After a series of top-level acquisitions in its first three years, the circuit has so far only brought in three new faces since the end of the 2024 season.
