Rookie Binnington takes third victory, Blues beats Stars 3-1

DALLAS (AP) – Rookie keeper Jordan Binnington won his third consecutive start, Vladimir Tarasenko scored two goals and the St. Louis Blues beat the Dallas Stars 3-1 on Saturday-evening.

Binnington, who played in six NHL games, is 3-0 in three starts. The 25-year-old has only allowed two goals in those starts. Binnington eliminated Philadelphia 1-0 on Monday and defeated Montreal 4-1 on Thursday.

He made 21 saves on Saturday, the first time he started consecutive games.

Pat Maroon also scored for the Blues, who have won two straight for the fifth time this season.

Erik Condra scored for Dallas. Ben Bishop has made 25 saves.

Tarasenko and Maroon scored first-time goals against Bishop, who won 3-1 in St. Louis four nights earlier. Veteran Jake Allen was in goal for the Blues in that match.

Condra made Binnington's chance for a second shutout and scored his first goal with Dallas at 8:35 of the third period.

The Stars have lost three or four, but are in third place in the Central Division.

Tarasenko scored on the first shot of the game, 34 seconds in, from the right faceoff circle. The backhand of Maroon from the right side of the net extended the lead of the Blues to 2-0 at 9:54.

Each team had 10 shots on target in the first period.

Dallas had a scoring opportunity halfway through the second period, but Jason Spezza's wrist from the top of the slot went over the shoulder of Binnington and off the bar.

In the third, a shot past Condra on the right side of the net and scored on a short shot. St. Louis challenged the goal in search of goaltender interference, but the goal remained.

Tarasenko scored his second goal on the powerplay at 12:38. Oskar Sundqvist took his second assist of the game.

OBSERVATIONS: Tarasenko has 15 career goals against Dallas. He also has seven assists for 22 points in 25 games. In the past five seasons, he has been in the last five seasons with Winnipeg's Patrik Laine for the most goals (14) vs. the stars. . Binnington led the AHL with a 2.08 goals against percentage when he was promoted from San Antonio. . The profit improved the record of the Blues under interim coach Craig Berube to 12-12-1. . Condra played in his fifth game since he was promoted from Texas by the AHL. His 40th goal for NHL was his first since April 7, 2016. Dallas D John Klingberg assisted with Condra & # 39; s goal and he has five points (one goal, four assists) in the last four games.
