The 27-year-old needed treatment on the pitch for nine minutes after his collapse, before he was stretchered off to applause from both sets of fans.

Now he could face another stage on the sidelines, having already missed eight games due to suspension this season.

Bentancur was handed a seven-match suspension for making an alleged racial slur at Tottenham captain Son Heung-min during a television interview in Uruguay.

He then missed Spurs’ 2-1 defeat to Newcastle on Saturday after picking up his fifth booking of the season the previous week.

Tottenham return to action on Sunday when they take on National League side Tamworth in the FA Cup.

They will then travel to north London to take on Arsenal in a delightful Premier League clash next Wednesday.
