The parents of a 16-month-old boy were left devastated after the child died overnight from unexplained causes earlier this month.
Ben Smith and Drew La Reservee from Rockingham, south of Perth, Western Australia, found their son Micah unconscious on the morning of Friday 14 June.
“My baby, there is nothing in the world that could have prepared Daddy and I for this. We love you deeply. Forever. We miss you so much. Fly high and watch over us,” Ms. La Reservee shared last week.
Family’s friend Lily Hewson has organized a fundraiser to cover funeral expenses so the devastated couple can take time off work to process the tragedy.
“Micah passed away unexpectedly overnight… They don’t have a cause yet (they are) waiting for the coroner’s report,” Ms Hewson told the Sound Telegraph.
‘It is with a heavy heart that we come to see you today. Ben and Drew have recently experienced an unimaginable tragedy – unexpectedly losing their beloved Micah,’ the fundraiser said.
‘As their close friends, we want to stand with them during this incredibly difficult time and do everything we can to help them. “Micah was a very happy and loving child who brought so much joy and hope.”
La Reservee thanked those who shared their condolences.
“We are so overwhelmed by the amount of love and support we have received that we really can’t thank you all enough,” he told the Sound Telegraph.
Washington boy Micah Smith died of unexplained causes during the night of June 14.
His devastated parents, Ben Smith and Drew La Reservee, said their son “joined the angels who left us with a gaping hole in our hearts.”
Hundreds of messages from friends and family have been shared online.
‘My heart aches for you two. “I am so sorry for the loss of beautiful Micah,” Shaun Gardiner wrote.
‘The only thing he knew was the immense love they both felt for him. He rests in Paradise, beautiful boy,’ said Tiarna Madison.
Hundreds of tributes to Micah and condolences to his parents have been shared online.
“Best mom and dad in the world, Micah will always be loved, the best memories will remain with you all forever,” Tahlia King said.
“Our beautiful nephew, no words can describe the love I have for you,” Ash Smith said.
