Similarly, there’s Smart Mode, which makes it work more like a thermostat when the fridge is at a warmer temperature. There’s also Party Mode, which prioritizes keeping drinks cold over making less noise. After a few minutes, I heard the compressor getting a little louder. I opened it up a few minutes later, and it was definitely colder in there. (Rocco lists a temperature range of 37 to 64 degrees Fahrenheit.)

But if I want drinks to stay colder while I’m at a party where people open the fridge often, I can just turn the temperature down to whatever I want. I don’t really see much of a need for all of these modes. Using a wireless Bluetooth thermometer, I tested the temperature changes inside the fridge for each mode to make sure they were working properly. I gave each of them 10 minutes to change and tested each shelf at both ends of the fridge. I was happy to find that they were all within just a few degrees of what the fridge was reading.

The other main feature of the app is the vision system. When you first set up the app, the refrigerator’s sensors scan everything you keep in it. Each drink then appears in the app, organized by drawer. I’m keeping some fairly obscure drinks, such as OoMee Seaweed Infused Drink and Yerba mate Yatéand recognized most of them, so I was impressed, although some, like my Dolin Vermouthwhich is one of the most popular vermouth brands, were not recognized.

Nutritional data for each drink is also listed, though many of them are incomplete. In theory, you could go to the grocery store and see what drinks you’re missing just by looking at the app. I found that I didn’t do this very often, though I was once curious to see if I was missing LaCroix and checked the app to see that I was. So I found it useful.

The system isn’t perfect though. Right now it tells me I still have a LaCroix left, even though I haven’t had one in a couple of weeks. I’d love to be able to buy something I’m running low on right from the app.

The dual temperature system also allows you to set half of the fridge to one temperature and the other half to another, which you can adjust manually or through the app. While this is important for being able to keep carbonated drinks and wines at different temperatures, this is the only feature that many wine fridges have, so it is not unique to the Rocco fridge.

Timeless design

The Rocco has a mid-century feel, but it’s also contemporary. I love the ribbed glass door, which looks spectacular when it’s nighttime and the lights inside peek through. Every time someone comes to my apartment, it becomes a topic of conversation. You can turn the light on and off and adjust the brightness from the app.

The top surface of the cooler is flat and sturdy, so it also works as a bar cart. The raised lip on the sides also helps make it less likely for the bottles I place on it to fall over. I have a bar cart that is packed to the brim with bottles, so it’s nice to have it right next to it for extra bottles.
