Robin Goodfellow’s racing tips: best bets for Saturday, March 27

John Gosden and son Thady welcomed a first win for their new training line-up in Lingfield and HAQEEQY (Doncaster, 3.10) could leave a mark on the partnership at Unibet Lincoln on Saturday afternoon.

Adding a son to a trainer’s license has become a trend of late, and the prospect of facing two Gosdens could be enough to sow fear into the hearts of other trainers. The bookies certainly haven’t taken any chances with the duo’s representative in the Town Moor position with Newmarket trainers dominating the market.

Both Haqeeqy and Eastern World, saddled by Charlie Appleby, have profiles of potential group horses posing as handicappers and a good thing can be made for the latter, judged on his excellent win over Meydan last month.

But Eastern World disappointed behind the roster when the duo tackled a seven furlong handicap on Saturday last September and Gosden’s four-year-old finished in such a powerful way that a mile seems well within his grasp.

Team Gosden has shown great confidence in novice apprentice Benoit De La Sayette, who hit the scene this winter, bringing together three winners for them from just a handful of rides.

This artificial turf job will be a very different test for the young rider after an all-weather winter, but he seems to have a stylish ally in Haqeeqy and a mid-field garage means they can follow where they have the best pace.

Of those with higher prices, Scottish Summit and Dashing Roger have some appeal. Their odds depend on the fact that a high draw is advantageous, but there is plenty of pace on the side rail of the stands with Dashing Roger as one of the pacing corners among the 22 runners.

Although now eight years old, Scottish Summit has put in two of his best performances in his last three starts and was a standout on his return to Wolverhampton.

A straight track and decent ground, however, are his optimal conditions, and this strong traveler could beat his odds.
