Robert Hansen, a former FBI agent who spied for Russia and the Soviet Union, has died in his prison cell in Florence, Colorado, according to a statement from the Federal Bureau of Prisons.
The spy, who was known by his pseudonym “Ramon Garcia”, was serving in Volrenco prison since 2002, a sentence on charges of spying for Russia, after being convicted of more than ten counts of espionage in 2001, and was sentenced to life imprisonment.
The Federal Prison Service said in a statement that on Monday morning, its employees found Hanssen, who is considered “the most harmful spy” in the history of the FBI, dead in his cell.
She indicated that she used emergency medical services and tried to save his life and take the necessary measures, but their attempts were unsuccessful.
The cause of death has not yet been determined, but medical staff expect the cause to be natural.
