Robert Griffin III’s wife Grete revealed her “whirlwind of emotions” while speaking out about her husband’s shocking departure from ESPN.
Former NFL star Griffin was considered a rising star television analyst, but the network fired him this week despite having two years left on his contract.
He was reportedly making more than $1 million a year under the deal and will receive full pay after being released before the start of the new NFL season.
On social media, Grete once again referred to her husband’s departure and posted a photo of them at a red carpet event this weekend.
Alongside the photo, she wrote: ‘Even though the last 48 hours have been a total whirlwind of emotions, we weren’t going to let anything stop us from helping the Harold & Carole Pump Foundation raise money and awareness for cancer treatment and cure. So lucky to be able to be a part of it!’

ESPN fired analyst Griffin earlier this week, despite having two years remaining on his contract.
In the comments section, one fan asked if Griffin would still be paid for his remaining two years, and Grete went on to offer clarification, confirming, “Yes, the headlines about him being fired were definitely misleading because he was technically ‘fired’ because he’s being paid his full contract.”
Griffin, the 2012 Offensive Rookie of the Year, played for the Washington Redskins, Cleveland Browns and Baltimore Ravens during his NFL career.
He joined ESPN in 2021 after turning down interest from Fox Sports, who were impressed by his audition and desperately wanted to sign him.
The former quarterback worked on ESPN’s “Monday Night Countdown” but was replaced by Jason Kelce this offseason.
The brother of Travis Kelce, the recently retired Philadelphia Eagles star and podcast host, is seen as a marquee signing for the network.

Griffin also worked on ESPN’s college football broadcasts alongside broadcaster Bob Wischusen.
Earlier this month, Griffin gave his support to controversial Olympic boxer Imane Khelif after she was embroiled in a gender-based row in Paris.
Khelif, who won a gold medal, was disqualified from the 2023 world championships after failing unspecified gender eligibility tests administered by the now-banned International Boxing Association.
The 25-year-old, who is not a transgender woman and has never identified as such, reportedly has male “XY” chromosomes.
Griffin III recently sparked controversy by supporting Olympian Imane Khelif.
Amid protests from people including former President Donald Trump over her presence at the 2024 Paris Olympics, Griffin said Khelif is a “biological woman” who deserves “protection.”
“This is one of the cruelest and most unfair situations I’ve ever seen at the Olympics,” the former quarterback said in a social media clip posted Friday.
“If you do a little research, you’ll find that five million women have higher testosterone levels than most women,” she explained.
“This young woman is not a man competing against women, she is a woman who is being judged unfairly.”
