BREAKING: Robert Durst, 78, jailed for ‘health incident’ in the middle of his murder trial: Prosecutor suggests he could have FAKING disease after ‘sharing plan to fake dementia’
Robert Durst, 78, is in a prison hospital after an “incident” that involved his health behind bars, the judge presiding over his ongoing murder trial said Thursday as he dismissed the jury for a long weekend.
“Mr. Durst isn’t here,” Judge Mark E. Windham said. “We learned that he is in the prison hospital this morning because of an incident involving his health.”
But according to Lawandcrime.com, which was the first to report breaking news, the prosecutor and Durst’s lawyer are debating whether it’s legit or a stalwart tactic.
Defense attorneys wanted to postpone the trial indefinitely, citing Durst’s bladder cancer diagnosis, lawandcrime.com reported.
He appeared at the trial in a wheelchair.
Deputy District Attorney John Lewin appeared to question the seriousness of Durst’s medical condition, telling a judge the New York property heir had said in prison that he intended to fake dementia and secure a mistrial. due to COVID-19, according to lawandcrime.com
“So I have no idea whether this is legit or not, but it is clearly, given his history, certainly questionable as to what his real condition is,” Lewin said in court.
Windham is taking the matter seriously, saying “He would not be taken to hospital without a legitimate health question,” a law enforcement agency reported.
“The circumstances this morning were that he – he was down. He was… he wasn’t in his chair,’ the judge said.
Robert Durst (pictured Tuesday) has told so many lies over the years that he can’t remember them all — and his own words will be “undo,” a prosecutor said Tuesday
DailyMail.com called prosecutors and Durst’s attorney, Dick DeGuerin.
The trial will resume Monday, according to the Los Angeles Superior Court.
Durst is on trial for allegedly murdering Susan Berman by shooting her in the back of the head, with prosecutors believing she had information about his wife Kathie Durst’s disappearance, which could have motivated Durst to allegedly kill her.
