Actor Robert De Niro confronted Trump supporters outside the former president’s secret trial Tuesday in New York after calling him a “clown” who wants to “destroy the world.”
De Niro appeared alongside Capitol Police officers Harry Dunn and Michael Fanone as special guests of President Joe Biden’s campaign.
The actor called Trump a ‘clown’ but also warned that re-electing him would be dangerous.
‘I love this city, I don’t want to destroy it. “Donald Trump wants to destroy not only the city but the country and eventually he could destroy the world,” De Niro said.
A group of Trump supporters could be heard in the background chanting, ‘fuck Joe Biden,’ and one person yelled at the actor, ‘your movies suck!’
Actor Robert De Niro appeared outside former President Donald Trump’s hush money trial Tuesday as a guest of President Joe Biden’s campaign.
De Niro called Trump a series of names and then got into some heated altercations with some of the former president’s supporters.
“We New Yorkers used to tolerate him when he was just another dirty real estate hustler dressed as a big shot,” De Niro said of Trump. A small-time playboy who makes his way into the tabloids. A clown.’
But this city is quite welcoming. “We make room for clowns,” the actor continued. “But not a person like Trump, who will eventually rule the country, that doesn’t work and we all know it.”
De Niro said Trump voters “believed his nonsense.”
“Trump bought their votes with outrageous lies and empty promises,” the actor said.
De Niro, with Dunn and Fanone behind him, recalled how Trump got an angry mob to storm the Capitol on January 6.
He said this is what motivated him to do the voiceover on a new Biden-Harris campaign ad.
“It shows Trump’s violence and reminds us that he will use violence against anyone who stands in the way of his megalomania and greed,” the actor said. “But it is the violence of a coward,” he added.
“Do you think Trump ever threw a punch or took one?” De Niro mused. ‘This guy who ran and hid in the White House bunker when there were protesters outside? No way. He does not stain his hands with blood. No he does not. He orders the mafia to do his dirty work for him.
De Niro pointed to reports that Trump would use the US military to quell future protests against him.
“That’s the tyrant he tells us he will be,” the actor warned.
The actor also warned that ‘elections’ in the US would be over if Trump gets a second term.
‘I can tell you right now. He will never leave. He will never leave. You know it. He will never leave,” De Niro said. ‘Do we want him to rule this country and say, “I’m not leaving, I’m a dictator for life?”
At that moment a car alarm began to sound.
“The only way to preserve our freedoms and hold on to our humanity is to vote for Joe Biden for president,” De Niro encouraged. ‘Actually. We have no choice,” he continued as the car continued honking.
Trump spokesman Jason Miller ridiculed the Biden campaign by removing De Niro and then told reporters that “the best thing they can do is cast a washed-up actor.”
One of Trump’s supporters used the same insult against De Niro as he left.
“You’re done,” a Trump supporter yelled at the actor.
“You guys are gangsters,” De Niro said.
‘Fuck you,’ the actor also offered.
