Liam Gallagher admitted that Oasis

Liam Gallagher claims Oasis “didn’t need to split up” over a drunken row backstage and insists Noel must make the first move if they reunite.

The singer, 51, confirmed on Wednesday that he will perform at the Glastonbury Festival this summer alongside legendary former Stones Roses guitarist John Squire.

And in light of the news, John and Liam conducted a joint interview with Sunday weather about his newly released music and upcoming tour.

Speaking to the publication, Liam spoke about that fateful Paris incident in 2009 that saw the demise of the Brit Pop pioneers and saw the singer swing one of Noel’s prized guitars “like an axe.”

‘I love my brother, I love my family and all that Oasis shit, it wasn’t necessary, you know what I mean?’ Liam said. “Maybe someone might get a little testy during the tour. Maybe someone drinks too much. But we didn’t have to separate because of that.

In 2023, Noel, 56, said he would consider an Oasis reunion if Liam called him, but the call never came.

And now Liam has said the same thing: that if his older brother doesn’t call there will be no meeting.

He said: ‘He knows I’m not going to call him. He’s the one who split up the band, so he’ll be the one to make the call, and if there’s no call we won’t get back together.’

However, Liam spoke of a possible change of situation that could soften Noel’s position: his recent separation from his wife Sara MacDonald.

Liam added: “Now that things have changed in his personal life, I can see him looking back, not looking back in anger, and saying, ‘You know what? I was very bad with my little brother. Now it’s time for me to do it. Send him a box of chocolates.’

When asked if Noel would turn up with his arms full of chocolates and if the iconic band would return, Liam said: “Oh, definitely.”

He went on to say that he doesn’t “hold grudges” and that an Oasis reunion would be “great” because he could sing half the repertoire again. “I could do that upside down,” Liam said.

Responding to a fan on X, formerly known as Twitter, last week, Liam revealed the news in an announcement that will no doubt delight fans.

After a user responded to a tweet from Liam about his beloved Manchester City, asking if he will be at Glastonbury with John this year, the musician gave a surprise response.

One of his followers posed the question: ‘Will we see you and Squire at Glastonbury this summer LG?’

Liam simply replied: “Yes,” in a response that sent unexpected fans into a frenzy ahead of the Glastonbury Festival, which takes place in June this year.

His apparent confirmation of his and John’s appearance came just before the release of the couple’s collaborative album, Liam Gallagher John Squire, which is due out on March 1.

It sees two heavyweights from the British pop era, with John known for his role as guitarist for The Stone Roses, join forces on a new LP.

Sara MacDonald met Noel in Ibiza in 2000 before his divorce from his first wife, Meg Mathews, a year later.

Their possible spot together on The Pyramid Stage follows a feud between Liam and his brother Noel that has raged for years, since Oasis disbanded in 2009.

In December, The Mail On Sunday exclusively revealed the couple were “closer than they have been in years” following Noel’s split from publicist Sara MacDonald.

Sources who know the brothers say the split had an “instant impact” on relationships between Liam and Noel.

Noel reached a divorce settlement the previous month, ending a 22-year marriage that contributed to a cruel and often public split with Liam.
