The news was a blow to Wrexham, who had already achieved back-to-back promotions under McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds.

However, McElhenney was in good spirits when he arrived at the club on Saturday afternoon for Wrexham’s game against Stockport.

He was seen signing autographs and posing for photos with fans before heading to the stadium for the game.

During the match, McElhenney celebrated Ollie Palmer’s equalizer after Connor Lemonheigh-Evans opened the scoring in the 29th minute for the visitors.

Earlier in the day it had been revealed that two new Welsh trains were named after their home towns and Reynold.

The trains, the Vancouver Red Dragon and the Philadelphia Robin, were created to honor the “positive work” and impact the owners have had on the area.

The trains were unveiled by Welsh First Minister Vaughan Gething and Transport and North Wales Cabinet Secretary Ken Skates.

Gething said it was “great… to see two of the latest additions to Transport for Wales’ stock, part of our £800m investment to improve train reliability and comfort”. There’s been a lot of buzz around Wrexham lately.

He added: “Rob and Ryan have given an incredible amount to the community and it is fantastic that their contribution is recognized with the new trains, which I am sure all Wrexham fans will want to travel on whenever they can.”

Skates said: ‘Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney have opened a window to the world on Wrexham, their fantastic football club and the wider region. “I am delighted that we are recognizing this by naming two of our new Welsh-made trains in their honour.”

James Price, chief executive of Transport for Wales, said: “We are in the process of introducing new trains to our Wales and Borders network… We are proud to name our new trains after Ryan and Rob’s home towns. .’
