The Roast of Tom Brady was full of jokes that constantly pushed the envelope, but Rob Gronkowski may have gone too far off script, Drew Bledsoe admitted.
Former Patriots quarterback Bledsoe joined Gronkowski, Bill Belichick, Julian Edelman and even Kim Kardashian in criticizing Brady during the hit Netflix special last week.
The seven-time Super Bowl winner endured brutal jokes about the end of his marriage, his ex-wife Gisele Bundchen and the deflategate scandal.
Gronkwoski, who played with Brady for both the Patriots and Tampa Bay Buccaneers, was also in the spotlight, puncturing shot glasses and being the butt of the joke on several occasions.
However, when it was the retired tight end’s turn to take the microphone, he apparently got a little carried away.
Rob Gronkowski reportedly went way off script in Tom Brady’s roast on Netflix last week.
Former Patriots quarterback Dew Bledsoe said he wasn’t sure if Gronk would ‘come back’
“We all appreciate Gronk because he gets to be Gronk,” Bledsoe said. The Dan Patrick Show.
“But the funny thing is that we were all sitting on the stage and we can see the teleprompter.
“Gronk was so off-script that we didn’t know if he would come back.”
‘Always come back!!’ Gronkowski responded with a slew of laughing X emojis.
Gronkowski took a lot of heat Sunday night when he endured several taunts about his intelligence or, as jokes say, lack thereof.
Nikki Glaser took aim at Gronkowski during the roast, mocking the former tight end for his intelligence as part of a joke about Brady’s rumored loss of $30 million in cryptocurrency.
But Bledsoe suggested that’s not really his true nature.
The retired tight end punctured a shot glass during the barbecue and allegedly injured a girl in the crowd.
Gronkowski was brutally mocked by comedian Nikki Glaser (right) as part of a joke about Brady and cryptocurrencies.
“He’s dumb as a fox,” Bledsoe said when asked about Gronkowski’s perception. ‘I mean everyone can see that. The guy is very smart, he works hard. But he also understands that that’s his trick.
At one point in the night, Gronkowski scored a shot with former coach Bill Belichick and Patriots owner Robert Kraft before Gronk hit one of his trademark finishes.
The 34-year-old, who used to do the same thing with a football in his NFL career, smashed the glass into the ground, sending pieces flying in all directions.
However, while it initially seemed like one of the night’s many fun moments, Schulz says one crowd member was left with “a piece of glass hanging from his cheek” as a result of the stunt.
Gronkowski sent pieces of glass flying everywhere when he threw the shot onto the stage
Schulz, one of the night’s toasters, says one audience member had a glass “hanging” from his cheek as a result of the stunt.
The American comedian, who was one of several attendees at the event, said in the last episode of his blatant podcast: ‘(Gronkowski) shot. It wasn’t even included in it. The shot was about Tom Brady, Belichick, Bob Kraft.
‘He takes it and has so much energy that he doesn’t know what to do. He hits him. We all thought, “What the fuck just happened?”
‘A girl in the front row has like a piece of glass hanging from her cheek. And I’m not talking about a small thing, her cheek is all red. She looks like a mime.
