Rob Gronkowski on Patriots future Jonathan Kraft: Count ex-Patriots Rob Gronkowski among the many people surprised by his former team’s current struggles.
“It’s a little weird that they’re in last place with the worst record in the AFC,” Gronkowski admitted during an interview on the “Op & Adams” show. “That’s strange. It’s hard to talk about it because it’s so weird.”
Gronkowski, who was originally drafted by Bill Belichick and the Patriots, had a specific criticism.
“I would say they don’t look like a Coach Belichick team,” he explained. “The problem is with the Patriots, they participate in a lot of games. They just don’t know how to seal the deal.”
“This team can’t close and that’s the biggest problem,” Gronkowski added, citing the example of last week’s loss to the Commanders, where wide receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster dropped the ball in a crucial situation, resulting in the match endgame.
On the subject of team president Jonathan Kraft’s alleged comments in the press box (in which he appeared to say:We are not good enough“) during the loss to Washington, Gronkowski shared his thoughts on this.
“You can go either way with what he said. I saw it very quickly on Twitter,” he said. “I don’t really have much to do with it.”
“He’s not wrong if that’s really what he said,” Gronkowski continued.
When asked where the Patriots go from this point, the former All-Pro acknowledged there is no obvious answer.
“That’s a tough question,” Gronkowski responded, though he made a case for New England to draft USC quarterback Caleb Williams if the team ultimately has a good pick.
“The Patriots will always be red hot with storylines, even if they don’t win.”
