Rio Ferdinand greets Manchester United after victory over Bournemouth, but admits to signing ‘THREE starters’ to overtake rivals Liverpool and Manchester City
- Manchester United came from behind to beat Bournemouth 5-2 at Old Trafford
- Rio Ferdinand has praised the qualities of his former team at the attacking end
- He still believes they have to make additional signups to compete for the competition
Rio Ferdinand praised Manchester United after their 5-2 win over Bournemouth, but has stated they still have to sign ‘three starters’ to compete for the title.
Goals from Marcus Rashford, Anthony Martial, Bruno Fernandes and braces from the impressive Mason Greenwood pushed Manchester United back into the top four.
After a tough first half of the season, Manchester United have been unbeaten since the signing of Bruno Fernandes in January.

Rio Ferdinand believes that Manchester United should still join the team to challenge at the top
Although Ferdinand, despite their impressive recent form, said after the match on BT Sport that his former party still needs further acquisitions.
He said, “They should add at least three starters. They definitely need a central defender with speed. They have invested a lot in Harry Maguire, but he is not one who is blessed with speed.
“He has other traits you like, but you need someone with speed to sit next to him and cover up.
“I think they need another midfielder to do that who can physically dominate and understand defensive positions. I think so, Scott McTominay has been a fantastic addition as a young player, but also someone with a bit of experience.
“And even in the front areas, I think another player can match that front three.”
Due to the poor first half of the season at Manchester United, they are 31 points behind league leader Liverpool and they compete for a qualifying place for the Champions League with Leicester City, Chelsea and Wolves.
Ferdinand says his former party must buy a defender to play alongside Harry Maguire
But since Fernandes arrived from Sporting Lisbon, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side has been the form team in the league.
This was largely thanks to the goals from front three Anthony Martial, Marcus Rashford and Mason Greenwood, who scored 55 goals in all competitions this season.
However, Ferdinand says there are still concerns in the defense after some nervous moments leading up to both Bournemouth goals.

He said: “They were in incredible form, in the future you have every reason to be optimistic about this team.
“It is so exciting to watch them, but to defend you have every reason to be pessimistic.
“It’s funny, but Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will know he’s on the right track, since we haven’t seen Man United progress in this form and look so smooth and comfortable for so long.”
