A rideshare driver was fatally shot by one of his passengers in a 7-Eleven parking lot early Friday morning, authorities said.
The man, whose identity has not been released by authorities, picked up two men and stopped their car in the parking lot in the 2800 block of East Imperial Highway in Lynwood around 1:30 a.m., according to the Lynwood County Sheriff’s Department. The Angels.
At the 7-Eleven, the driver, believed to be in his 30s, got into a fight with the men, according to the Sheriff’s Department.
During the altercation, one of the two men drew a gun and shot the victim in the upper torso, authorities said. The two men then stole the victim’s car and fled the scene.
Police rushed to the scene and found the man suffering from the gunshot wound. He died on the spot.
The car was discovered nearby and the two suspects have not been arrested, the Sheriff’s Department said.
The Sheriff’s Department could not confirm which rideshare company the victim worked for.
The driver was identified by NBCLA as an Uber driver and a married father of two young children.
