Ricky Hatton has labeled Floyd Mayweather’s exhibition to YouTuber Logan Paul as ‘boxing s*** and an indication of how ‘money seems more important than inheritance’ in the modern era.

Mayweather returned to the ring for the first time since New Year’s Eve 2018 to take on social media influencer Paul, a new boxer who lost his only professional match.

The 44-year-old was able to earn more than $100 million from the controversial eight-round fight he dominated, though surprisingly he was unable to stop his 26-year-old rival at Miami’s Hard Rock Stadium.

Paul and younger brother Jake have gotten their hands dirty in boxing, with the latter offering UFC stars career-high paydays when they step into the ring with him.

And former world champion Hatton, who lost to Mayweather in December 2007, took to Instagram to lash out at his old rival and lament the current state of boxing.

WTF was all about this? What happened to the days when fighters risk their lives trying to be the best and at least fight the best?’ he posted to his 300,000 followers.

“Now we have fighters shouting youtubers because that’s where most of the money is made these days because of the social media world we live in???

“I can live with an exhibition like Mike (Tyson) and Roy (Jones) did between two legends of our sport, but the greatest fighter of all time who has only recently retired against someone who is only there [sic] from how many followers he has and not because of who he beat before???

“Money is important, that’s why we left the amateurs and turned pro. But these days, money seems more important than inheritance.

‘Floyd and Logan, hey Everyman see you there’ [sic] own. Good luck to both. My personal opinion was that that was bad for boxing. #getupthereboy’.

Hatton had previously thought that the Miami exhibit was detrimental to the sport and that fans “deserved to be entertained.”

“It’s all about money for him,” he said last week. ‘Personally I thought it was about the fans, the fans pay your wages. The fans deserved to be entertained. Floyd doesn’t care as long as he gets money. It shows a total lack of respect for his peers and the other great champions of yesteryear.’

Mayweather has defended his decision to step into the ring with the YouTube novice, saying “your kids can’t eat legacy” after his feud with Paul.

“They say, ‘It’s not just about the money.’ Well, your kids can’t eat inheritance… The stains on my suitcases, [earned me] $30 million alone. So who really is the smartest in the sport of boxing? When it comes to legalized bank robberies, I’m the best,” he said via Michael Benson.

Mayweather, who sees these exhibitions as “entertainment” rather than boxing, hinted that he would not be allowed to participate in such events in the future.
