Ricky Gervais left in agony after adjusting an existing back pain while tying his shoelace

He is normally known for his cheerful disposition and good sense of humor.

But Ricky Gervais was not in a fit of laughter on Monday when he revealed to his fans that he is suffering from severe back pain after adjusting for an existing problem.

The 60-year-old comic held a Twitter Live session in which he revealed he had been trying to tie his shoelace when his back started hurting him.

“Get me an ambulance!” Ricky Gervais has revealed he was left in agony after pinching his back while tying his shoelace – leaving him to need partner Jane to help him get dressed

During the live session, Ricky said, “I’m not feeling well, I went for a run at 4am, tied my shoe and my back hurt.

‘Couldn’t walk, it took me ages, I had only come to the end of the street.

“It’s the thing when you’re terrified and can’t walk, but you don’t want to look weird to anyone.

‘I wanted to lie down and yell, ‘Get me an ambulance.’

Ricky then said he had managed to return to his home, where he told his long-term girlfriend Jane that he had injured his back again.

He said, ‘I came back, lay on the floor, took some naproxen that we’ve always been given because the last time my back went down, that helped me relax it.

“It’s getting close to five o’clock and I’m still in my training gear.

“Jane helps me undress, take a shower, and get dressed. Even with the two of us, getting dressed was a bit of a chore.’

Helping Hand: Ricky also said the pain he felt in his back was so extreme that he needed the help of his long-term partner Jane to change his clothes (pictured together in 2018)

Reflecting on the fallout from his injury, Ricky said: “I’ve booked tennis for tomorrow, that has to be damned cancelled. Thank god I don’t have a gig.

‘The next tour after this one I’ll do it sitting. I’m changing the genre, it’s not standing up, it’s f***ing sitting down.’

His injury comes after Ricky joked that he still can’t name funny women when he toasted Miranda Hart during a warm-up for this new comedy show.

The creator of Office claimed that the only female comics he found funny were Dame Edna Everage and Eddie Izzard. The sun reports.

Dame Edna is the onstage alter ego of male comedian Barry Humphries, 87, and Eddie, 59, announced in December that she is gender fluid.

On stage for his final performance, the outspoken Ricky said, ‘What about all the funny female comedians?

“In real life, I know there are a lot of funny women out there. Like, uh. No, but there are… Dame Edna Everage.

‘Eddie Izzard. She’s funny. Not only is she a great comedian, she is also a great actress. He was, she was brilliant as that man in that thing,’ he joked.

Ricky, who later insisted he was joking with his scathing set, then took a look at Miranda Hart when he said he had been trolled online by someone wondering if he really was a comedian.

He explained: “I got this tweet: ‘Call yourself a comedian?’ He knows I do. It’s literally in my Twitter bio.

Ricky then insinuated that it would be a fatal insult to be compared to Miranda Hart as he continued the savage set.

Ricky remembers the online fight and says, “You’re about as funny as…” – I thought he’d go for the jugular vein and say ‘Miranda’!’
