Ricky Gervais has teased what he would have said if he were hosting the 2025 Golden Globes.
The comedian, 63, known for his daring and often divisive humour, has received the prestigious awards five times in the past.
This year, however, the job has been taken over by fellow comedian Nikki Glaser, who will officiate Sunday’s ceremony.
Despite stepping aside, Gervais took to X to share the jokes he had lined up, giving fans a taste of the monologue he would have delivered.
On a selfie of himself in the bath, he wrote: ‘Sat in the bath wondering what I would say if I hosted the Golden Globes on Sunday. It’s been a pretty good year for equipment’
The Office creator then shared some of his pretend material, allowing followers to imagine the edgy and controversial set he’s famous for.

He wrote, “Hello, and welcome to the 82nd Golden Globe Awards. What a year it has been.
“Hundreds of entertainers took the opportunity to go to the Vatican to meet the Pope. Many from Hollywood.
“They were clearly unhappy with just being part of the second largest pedoring ring in the world…”
He continued, “Justin Timberlake was convicted of (driving under the influence). If he had gone to prison, he would have heard the words ‘Sexy Back’ a lot more often.”
Ricky then turned his attention to Sean “Diddy” Combs, writing, “Kevin Hart said it was awkward being at one of Diddy’s parties because he wouldn’t leave him alone. Finally he had to shout: ‘Imma Midget, no child.’
Fans praised the comic’s quick wit and some vented their frustration that he wasn’t present on the big night. They wrote: ‘Wow, I wish you were hosting now…’
“We were robbed; We should have had him as host.”
‘Ricky never disappoints’
Ricky spoke about the DUI arrest of Justin Timberlake last year and Sean “Diddy” Combs, who is being held in New York City on multiple charges of sex trafficking and sexual assault

Ricky is no stranger to saying controversial jokes and gained the support of many of his fellow celebrities after roasting them while hosting the Golden Globes in 2010, 2011, 2012, 2016 and 2020.
The likes of Tom Hanks and Gwyneth Paltrow were left with stunned looks when the actor mocked Felicity Huffman over the 2020 college admissions scandal
“You’re on fire tonight!”
‘You never disappoint. HILARIOUS!’
“Omg, keep them coming. So funny. ‘
Ricky previously hosted the Golden Globes in 2010, 2011, 2012, 2016 and 2020.
In 2020, his opening monologue was considered the most controversial in Golden Globes history, as he took aim at Prince Andrew, Jeffrey Epstein and “woke up” Hollywood.
Following his latest guest stint, Ricky explained the thought process behind his roasts, reasoning, “Am I pandering to the 200 egos in the room or the 200 million people watching around the world? And there is no competition.
‘I know what I’m going to say. I’m not there to ruin their evening, I’m there to make the people at home laugh.
‘You have to write seven minutes of your best jokes, you can’t actually use them again. It’s a lot of work for seven minutes, but the reward is amazing. I mean, such an audience doesn’t exist.’
An unrepentant Ricky then hit back at the criticism leveled at him over his speech, saying he was playing a “brash character” in his role as host.
He explained: “People know David Brent and Tony are characters.
‘They don’t know that I do stand-up and that I’m also a bit of a personality at the Golden Globes. There I play this brash character who comes to ruin the evening of the liberal elites.
‘I tightened up those jokes. I made those jokes bulletproof.”
Hollywood can rest easy for now, though, as Ricky has revealed he doesn’t want to host the show again.
He explained: ‘The Golden Globes might offer me £10m for ten minutes of work, you know, and I’d be an idiot, I’d be a liar if I said I wouldn’t consider it.
“But at this point, as I’ve done it five times, it got better and better for me – I liked them all, but it got better – and I plan on never doing it again.
‘I asked them not to ask me because I can be persuaded, that’s true. You know, it’s not a principle.’
