A man has been charged with a series of offences hours after he allegedly pushed an elderly woman onto the tracks in front of horrified passengers at one of Melbourne’s busiest train stations.
Emergency crews were called to Richmond station on Wednesday afternoon after a woman was allegedly pushed from the platform.
Passersby rushed to the aid of the 64-year-old woman and lifted her back onto the platform as the man allegedly fled.
She was taken to Alfred Hospital. in stable condition with non-life-threatening injuries.
Police said they did not know their alleged attacker.
The incident caused major delays at train stations across the CBD during the evening peak period.
A 54-year-old Werribee man was arrested in Southbank on Thursday morning.
The man was charged with conduct endangering life, conduct endangering serious injury, reckless conduct causing injury and unlawful assault of a female.

He has also been charged with several unrelated crimes, including robbery, theft, aggravated robbery, burglary, unlawful assault and threats to kill.
The additional charges relate to two recent robberies at businesses in Footscray and an aggravated robbery at a hotel in Southbank on Thursday morning prior to his arrest.
He was taken into custody will appear in Melbourne Magistrates Court next Friday.
