Mother-in-law stabbed daughter’s husband to death after accusing wife of having an affair with her taekwondo instructor, court hears

A man was stabbed to death by his mother-in-law in self-defense after bursting into rage when he discovered that his wife had cheated on him with her taekwondo instructor, a court has heard.
Adam Coble, 40, was fatally stabbed in the chest by his mother-in-law Kay Leonard in January 2019 at his home in North Richmond in northwest Sydney.
Mr. Coble had inflicted an 11-year reign of domestic violence that came to a head when he found out that his wife Robyn Coble was having an affair.
He confronted his wife that day after discovering sexually explicit texts she had sent to the instructor, an inquest at Lidcombe Corners Court that was heard Monday.

A month earlier, an arrest warrant was issued against Mr Coble, who was also charged with willful harm.
Mrs. Coble called her mother to the house, who urged the 40-year-old to move.
‘See, you can’t keep fighting – Adam, you can move if you want, you can stay with your mothers,’ Ms. Leonard said. The Daily Telegraph
Senior Sergeant Sasha Harding said Mr. Coble then turned his anger on his mother-in-law in a savage stabbing frenzy in the sitting room.
Ms. Leonard was left with eight separate wounds, but did not lose consciousness and fought back with both hands, the court heard.

He took a knife from a kitchen drawer and approached Kay from behind. Adam took Kay’s hair and hit her on the floor, he stabbed Kay in the neck, ”Sr Sergeant Harding said.
The officer said that Robyn Coble then jumped from her chair and put her husband in a stranglehold while her mother took control of the knife.
Kay took Adam’s knife and hit it once in the chest. Robyn kept holding her as she screamed for help, ”Mrs. Leonard said.
The couple’s teenage daughter called the police, who arrived at the house to find the mother-in-law with critical injuries and Mr. Coble lifeless in his wife’s cheek.

“I took the knife out of his hand so he couldn’t go on and stabbed him, mate,” Mrs. Leonard said to the police. 7 News reported.
Ms. Leonard – who, according to police, was acting in self-defense – survived her injuries despite spending 10 days in a coma.
The couple had been known to the police for cases related to domestic violence since 2008.

Mr Coble’s mother, Anne Skeed, who had called for the formal review of her son’s death, said there was more information the police had not given to the inquest.
“He was a great horseman, he was a great upholsterer, he wrote beautiful poetry,” she said.
‘Just sad it turned out like this. It’s extremely sad. ‘
The coroner will present his findings on Wednesday.
