Richarlison has revealed the details behind an awkward engagement with Antonio Conte during the Italian’s time at Tottenham.
Conte was appointed Spurs manager in November 2021, serving 16 months until he was sacked in March 2023 after criticizing the club, staff and players at a press conference.
Spurs enjoyed various successes under his leadership but are now on a different journey under Ange Postecoglou, and president Daniel Levy made it clear that he wanted to give the club its identity back.
Meanwhile, Richarlison arrived in the summer of 2022 on a £60m deal from Everton, playing a supporting role under Conte until landing a more regular starting place under Postecoglou.
The striker joined his compatriot Royal in an interview with Fred Brunoand is said to have described how a breakdown in communication with Conte led to a somewhat awkward discussion.

“He arrived late for the meeting on the day of the match and the guy (Conte) said: ‘Do you want to say something? Do you want to apologize to the team?” Emerson said, referring to Richarlison.
‘He asked the other kids who were late too, the kids said they were sorry, then he walked up to him, he was supposed to apologize, right?’ Then he said “ah, I think I need more minutes.”
“I think he understood that the guy asked him if he had anything to talk about, then he started saying that the formation we were playing in was shit, he said a couple of things.”
Richarlison then took over and explained that he didn’t fully understand what Conte had told him.
“I came out saying everything that occurred to me,” said the forward. ‘I need more minutes, this training is useless, I didn’t adapt, this training is shit.
‘I started talking, then the guys behind me started laughing. I didn’t understand what he had asked me, I started saying what I had already rehearsed.’
Richarlison played for Conte for less than a season before the coach was fired in May 2022.

Richarlison has scored 11 goals in 25 games this season, regaining form after a difficult start at Tottenham.
He has often played a more central role, with club captain Son Heung-min deployed to the left of the front three after replacing Hugo Lloris in captaincy duties.
The forward will hope to continue his good run when Tottenham take on Aston Villa this weekend.
