Richard Osman has criticized BAFTA bosses for nominating just three shows for Best Daytime, after the shortlist for the TV Awards was announced on Wednesday.
The 52-year-old The Pointless star tweeted that daytime TV hits “well above its weight” but only two of his shows, The Chase and Scam Interceptors, were recognized.
Richard also noted that one of the nominees, a special episode of The Repair Shop with King Charles, aired at 8pm that night.
He added that if we were a producer on one of the snubbed shows, which include Come Dine With Me, Lingo and Bridge Of Lies, he would be “very upset”.
Richard stepped away from the weeknight version of Pointless last year to focus on writing, but he still appears on the show’s celebrity specials with host Alexander Armstrong.
Shocking: Richard Osman has criticized BAFTA bosses for nominating just three shows for Best Daytime, after the shortlist for the TV Awards was announced on Wednesday.

Weird: The Pointless star tweeted that one of the nominees, a special episode of The Repair Shop with King Charles, aired at 8 p.m.
Posting a screenshot of the three nominees, Richard wrote: ‘Daytime TV blows its weight in terms of ratings, cost and popularity.
‘Having only 2 daytime shows on this list is a bit of a kick in the teeth for producers. If I did Bridge Of Lies, HUTH, Come Dine, Lingo, etc. I think I would feel robbed. Why bother having the category?
He added: ‘Apologies for such a TV-focused tweet, but it can be such a snobbish industry at times.
“Also, I love all three nominated shows (but the brilliant Repair Shop was on 8pm).”
One of Richard’s supporters pointed out that the number of nominations may be due to a smaller pool of shows to consider, writing: “BAFTA rules state that if there are fewer than 20 entries, there can only be 3 nominees.” I’m not sure how big the potential field is beyond those 20, mind.
According to BAFTA’s published rules for 2023, a program deemed Best Daytime is “defined by its high volume and ability to return, delivering consistent quality over the long term, often at a highly restrictive rate.”
The Best Daytime BAFTA was first presented in 2021 and was awarded to The Great House Giveaway, beating out The Chase, Jimmy McGovern’s Moving On and Richard Osman’s House Of Games.
Last year, The Chase was given the honor above House Of Games, Moneybags and Steph’s Packed Lunch.

Strange: Richard tweeted that daytime TV punches “way above its weight” but only two of his shows, The Chase and Scam Interceptors, were recognized.

Explanation: One of Richard’s supporters pointed out that the number of nominations may be due to a smaller pool of shows for consideration.

Departure: In 2022, Richard announced that he would be leaving the weekday version of Pointless to focus on his writing career.
This year’s BAFTA TV Awards will take place on Sunday 13 May and will be hosted by Rob Beckett and Romesh Ranganathan.
In 2022, Richard announced that he would be leaving the weekday version of Pointless to focus on his writing career.
He goes on to host Celebrity No-Nonsense as well as his hit BBC Two show, Richard Osman’s House of Games.
Richard said: ‘With the runaway success of the books around the world, something had to give. I will always love Pointless and watch it too.’
He said in a statement: ‘Senseless has been a joy from start to finish, working alongside my friend Alexander Armstrong, backed by the most amazing team and to the best viewers in the world.
‘I will miss everyone so much, but I’m thrilled to continue hosting the celebrity shows. I can’t thank everyone enough for twelve amazing years.
Alexander added: ‘The loss of daytime television is the gain of international best-selling crime fiction. I say this like it’s a consolation: I’m going to miss the big man by my side Monday through Friday.
“But at least I still get it on the weekends, and on weekdays if you’re watching Challenge.”
In December, Richard also revealed that he had married the Doctor Who star. Ingrid Oliver at a ‘magical’ ceremony at Goodwood House.
