Ally McCoist addressed Van Dijk’s criticism on TNT Sports and backed the Liverpool man.

He suggested Everton’s defeat was very different to Liverpool’s. That’s a new word for you.

It’s absolutely fair because their form has been questionable. The difference with the Palace game is that they missed some opportunities but so did Palace. But at least they created opportunities, they had more in that defeat.

The defeat the other night was very different for Liverpool. In a derby it looked like they were out-fought, out-paced, out-thought and it was a really poor performance.

‘These things (bad outcomes) can happen. Opportunities are missed, but the performance the other night was worrying for me.

Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk was the man who came forward to the media after the defeat to Everton, and he certainly didn’t hold back.

He questioned his teammates’ desire to win the league, saying they “don’t deserve it” and demanding more.

The Reds legend went on a pretty stern rant after Liverpool lost to Everton in the week, criticizing the set-up for the title race in Nunez, everything.

There are some pretty grim faces as the Liverpool players arrive at the London Stadium.

It’s a bit of a strange situation, isn’t it?

I don’t have statistics to hand, but it seems that Liverpool misses a lot of opportunities. I’m not sure if this is due to Nunez’s problems, but something is not right.

There have been reports that Michael Edwards has not been very happy with Liverpool’s business during his absence. Mane and Firmino essentially replaced by Díaz and Núñez, the latter’s midfield struggles etc etc.

Maybe the Reds will do business this summer. Maybe one or two will leave. What is certain, however, is that Klopp is clearly unhappy enough to make the changes.

The big news for West Ham is that Jarrod Bowen is back fit and ready to go. That’s huge for them.

David Moyes, however, has only had two opportunities. Bowen replaces Ward-Prowse, meaning Paqueta will likely play centrally, and there is also a scoring opportunity, with Alphonse Areola replacing Lucasz Fabianski between the sticks.

A big call to change so few after the Crystal Palace humiliation. Maybe something like ‘go out and fix things’.

The big call in the Liverpool team is that both Mohamed Salah and Darwin Núñez have been relegated to the bench. It is evident that Klopp is not happy with his team’s finish in recent matches. So he has changed both the front line and the midfield. Curtis Jones and Dominik Szoboszlai also go to the bench.

Five changes in total: Konate, Szoboszlai, Jones, Salah and Núñez leave, Quansah, Endo, Gravenberch, Elliott and Gakpo enter.

It is true that nowadays a lot of attention is focused on Liverpool, but West Ham has its own situation, let’s say.

No one seems to know if David Moyes will be in charge next year. The officials appear to have met with Ruben Amorim. He doesn’t want the job. They’re chasing Europe one week and getting beaten the next.

Last time out, the Hammers lost 5-2 to Crystal Palace, before being knocked out of the Europa League and tasting defeat at Fulham. They actually haven’t won since the beginning of the month.

I guess now is a good time to recover.

However, that’s next season and we’re here to focus on today.

Klopp’s Liverpool have seen their season unravel before their eyes in recent weeks. It started with an FA Cup defeat to rivals Manchester United, and has since seen them crash out of the Europa League and lose back-to-back preliminary matches against Crystal Palace and, uh, rivals Everton.

Their title hopes look all but over, meaning a potential Quad will end up being just a Carabao Cup, but they will want to end the season and Klopp’s reign on a high.

We’ll hear from the team in about 12 minutes.

Klopp has been in charge of Liverpool for eight years. It will be strange when he leaves, especially for Liverpool fans.

There would always be questions about his replacement. Apparently, Slot is going to be the man, and it has received mixed reviews, but what will be, will be.

Klopp himself broke his silence on Slot’s imminent appointment in the build-up to this match.

“I’m not involved in the process, just to clarify that,” he said. ‘(But) I really like it if he’s the one. He wants to take the job. Come on, let’s go for it. Enthusiastic.’

There is only one place to start today. Looks like Liverpool have their man.

The Reds and Feyenoord have verbally agreed that Dutch coach Arne Slot will replace Jurgen Klopp from the start of next season.

Mail Sport reported on Friday morning that the two clubs were close to a deal and that deal, which could reach up to £9.42 million, was negotiated late last night.

The Dutchman will be the person who leads the new era of the Premier League team. Who knows what to expect?
