Richard Bacon has said that he “doesn’t mind” talking about his Blue Peter cocaine scandal and is now “comfortably joking about it.”
The 45-year-old presenter reflected on his past behavior, leading him to be fired from the program in 1998 after admitting to taking drugs at a London nightclub.
He told The sun: ‘I don’t mind talking about Blue Peter or the cocaine. It’s all such a prominent part of my past.

‘But I love to joke about it. I just don’t care. It doesn’t matter anywhere. ‘
However, he added that his experience on the show would have been very different if there had been social media at the time.
He explained: “The intensity of the storm is now even more violent and frightening.

Richard had only been at his dream job at Blue Peter for a year and a half when he was fired at the age of 22 after admitting to using cocaine in a London nightclub.
At the time, the BBC released a statement from Lorraine Heggessey, head of children’s programs, who said: “ It is sad that such a talented presenter as Richard Bacon has not only abandoned himself and his colleagues, but most importantly, let the millions of children who look at Blue Peter in the sting. ‘

During his candid interview with The Sun, Richard also spoke about anxiety during the coronavirus pandemic, as he had a near-fatal lung infection in 2018.
After falling ill while on a flight from America, the star fell into an induced coma after failing to respond to treatment for pneumonia.

Richard shared how the doctor told him after his recovery that if he ever got a critical illness in the next five years, he would be “20 percent more likely to die.”
He added that life in LA was a good place to be during the pandemic and that he has already had his first vaccination against the coronavirus.

Judi had started the conversation when she innocently asked “why did you leave, what happened?” while the guests, including comedian Jimmy Carr, talked about Richard’s past life as the presenter of Blue Peter.
After the jury all had a good laugh for not being aware of the infamous cause, Richard told her he was “fired for punctuality,” adding, “Because you’re always late if you take a lot of coke.”
