Crown Princess Mary proved she still knows how to party with the royal as she celebrated her eldest son Christian’s 18th birthday in style at Christiansborg Palace on Saturday.
Mary was dressed in a sparkling floor-length black dress for the occasion, completing the look with an elegant updo, her wedding day diamond tiara and royal blue sash.
But her formal look didn’t stop her from getting involved when Queen Margrethe revealed her grandson’s birthday surprise: a private rock concert in a palace.
The Tasmanian-born princess and mother-of-four clapped enthusiastically and smiled on stage where famous Danish rock star Benjamin Hav was performing with his band The Family.
The 51-year-old’s family followed her lead and seemed equally impressed by the surprise performance as she performed her best moves on the dance floor.
Crown Princess Mary proved she still knows how to party – as she celebrated her eldest son Christian’s 18th birthday at Christiansborg Palace on Saturday.
Crown Prince Fredrick, who wore full ceremonial attire with his traditional blue sash displaying his medals, also danced up a storm in the night.
Prince Christian could barely contain his excitement and flashed a wide smile as he bobbed his head wildly to the music.
His little brother Prince Vincent, 12, was bouncing alongside his sibling – enjoying the big birthday party.
The young people were joined by other members of the European royal family at the party.
The concert followed the prince’s official gala dinner and his balcony appearance with his parents and the Queen.
Prince Christian took the stage during the concert
The concert video was posted on the palace’s official Instagram, delighting the Danish public.
And a photo shows that the birthday prince was able to take the stage and take control of the microphone.
“I am so proud of our royal house. Beautiful young people, what an experience you have had all your life. What a party,” one person said admiringly.
Some criticized the prince’s moves.
His little brother’s joy was also filmed
“Prince Christian may be king, but Vincent is king of the soil,” one fan said.
Others said the Queen had proven herself by organizing the concert.
“The greatest queen in the world!” others cheered.
“How cool is Queen Margrethe… A nice gift for the guests.”
“A great gift from a lovely grandmother. She knows how to catch young people and hold them.
