Dean Wells on Tuesday revealed what he believed was the “real reason” Australia rejected the Indigenous voice in Parliament in Saturday’s referendum.
The Married at First Sight alum, 45, expressed his controversial opinion on the matter in a lengthy Instagram post that divided his fans.
He insisted the no vote had nothing to do with racism or misinformation, but was instead a result of the post-COVID pandemic cost-of-living crisis.
“Here’s why Australians voted no. It’s not racism, misinformation or a lack of knowledge about voice,” he began.
“That’s because we are just emerging from a two-year pandemic in which families were torn apart, thousands died, businesses were closed, the government locked us indoors, forced us to wear masks and take a vaccine that many did not want.”

The Married at First Sight alum insisted the no vote had nothing to do with racism or misinformation, but was instead a result of the post-COVID pandemic cost-of-living crisis.
He continued: “As a result we are left with a cost of living crisis… We have insane rental prices, a housing shortage, record inflation, massive interest rates and ordinary Australians from all walks of life struggle to get by.
“On top of all that, leftists want to talk about colonialism and the horror of this country without ever acknowledging the fact that we live in the safest, most just, most abundant and most beautiful country in the world. “
Dean went on to say that “not a single white person alive today” was involved in the colonization of First Nations.
“Yet as a nation we have been doing a lot for a long time to try to address the issues affecting Indigenous communities today,” he added.
The former reality TV star then said the referendum was an “insult” to most Australians, before telling First Nations people how much he “respects and supports” them.
Dean’s lengthy post divided fans in his comments section, with some saying he was talking about “facts” while others said they “totally disagree” with his point of view.

“I would like to know what ‘we as a nation have been doing so much for so long’ to help. A real help,” one person wrote.
Another said: “That’s the problem. Australians know very little about their own indigenous peoples. This is insulting to Aboriginal people.
Meanwhile, another praised Dean for such a ‘good message’, writing: ‘Must say the BS in Parliament says white people/that’s the word used voted No, what absolute BS (sic) .
“This was not a vote against Indigenous Australians. It was a vote against an untrustworthy government,” wrote another.
