Minister for Indigenous Australians Linda Burney says the government will now consider its next move.
Only 40 percent of Australians supported the proposal, with that vote falling short of a majority in any state.
Ms Burney says the high Indigenous vote for The Voice was a positive sign.
“That tells me that the Aboriginal people of Australia wanted this,” she told ABC’s 7:30 show on Monday.
“What the government will do is let the dust settle and we will undertake a process to determine where people want to go next.”
