Stephen Curry’s wife Ayesha Curry broke down in tears after Paris police prevented her from leaving the men’s Olympic basketball final with their baby.

Ayesha and her mother-in-law, Sonya, had a tense exchange with police on Saturday after Steph and Team USA won gold at the 2024 games.

A video posted online by Hollywood Fix showed Ayesha holding her four-month-old son, Caius Chai, and wiping away tears as Sonya pleaded with officers on the street to allow the family access to their vehicle.

Sonya is heard yelling that someone touched Caius, the couple’s fourth child who was born prematurely in May. Steph’s Golden State Warriors teammate Draymond Green is also heard saying that someone hit the child’s head.

A man, who appeared to be acting as a translator, then explained to the group that the police had said that “the president” was arriving and that “no one can cross the street at this time until he has passed.”

French President Emmanuel Macron had attended the match between the United States and host country France, so it is possible that he was leaving the stadium at the time of the game.

A visibly upset Ayesha, 35, holds Caius in a chest-worn baby carrier with her six-year-old son Canon Jack, swaddled in an American flag, at her side.

“Look, they won’t let us go back to where we came from,” Sonya said in the video. “They won’t let the driver come here and they won’t let us go back there.”

At one point, a man begins translating for police and offers an apology: “I’m sorry about the baby.”

Steph, 36, did not appear in the footage, but his teammate certainly made his presence felt in the gold medallist’s absence.

“So even after hitting the baby in the head, there’s nothing they can do to get him out of here?” Green asked, trying to intervene.

At one point, an angry Sonya can be heard yelling at the others off-camera: “What? Stop saying my name! You should be helping us with the baby!”

Later, through tears, Sonya simply tells the officers, “Just let us get to our car.”

Although Ayesha is clearly crying, she remained silent throughout the confrontation. The couple has not responded publicly to the incident.

Steph and Ayesha announced the birth of Caius at the end of May.

“Our sweet baby boy decided to arrive early!” the four-time NBA champion wrote on Instagram alongside a photo of the newborn’s hand. “He’s doing great and we’re finally settling in at home as a family of 6! We’re so thankful!”

It’s unclear when Caius was originally scheduled to be born, but the couple’s first three children were born in July, at the height of the NBA offseason.

Their eldest daughter, Riley Elizabeth, was born in July 2012, while their daughter Ryan was born three years later, followed by their first son, Canon, in 2018.

The son of former NBA guard Dell and brother of Charlotte Hornets reserve Seth, Stephen Curry is entering his 16th season and already standing out as the most prolific three-point shooter in league history.

In addition to his four NBA titles, he also has an NBA Finals MVP award, 10 All-Star nominations and two Most Valuable Player honors.

Steph met Ayesha as a teenager at church in her native Charlotte, where her father was playing at the time. The two eventually tied the knot in July 2011.

Dell and his longtime wife, Sonya, have since divorced.
