Caitlin Clark suffered a migraine during the Indiana Fever’s win over the Phoenix Mercury on Sunday.
The 22-year-old made more history over the weekend, racking up her 138th assist of the season – a new franchise record for a rookie.
But Clark was substituted late in the game and the WNBA star was absent from her media duties following the 88-82 victory.
Afterward, Christie Sides revealed that Clark had been feeling under the weather throughout the game, even as she racked up 15 points, 12 assists and nine rebounds.
When asked why she took Clark out of the game, the Fever coach insisted it was a tactical decision. “I thought we needed a defensive group, we needed to make sure we stopped the opposition. That’s what it was all about,” she said.

Coach Christie Sides revealed that Clark had been feeling unwell throughout the match.
But when pressed about Clark’s status, Sides said, “He didn’t feel good the whole game, so he’s with his trainer right now.”
It was later confirmed that the WNBA star had migraines. It’s a problem she’s battled throughout her career, and Clark is used to dealing with the pain.
She was the team’s third-leading scorer in its 88-82 win over Phoenix, which features legends Diana Taurasi and Brittney Griner.
Clark logged 39 minutes and was just one rebound away from becoming the first WNBA rookie to record a triple-double.
Clark was substituted late in the game and the WNBA star then skipped her media duties.
Taurasi, who once warned that Clark would have to be prepared for a difficult transition in the league, praised the rookie for how she has handled the new level of competition.
‘It’s amazing what Caitlin has been able to do so far in her short career. It just hasn’t been anything brief or extraordinary. The only thing I really love about her is that she loves the game.
‘You can tell she put in the effort. Even throughout her short WNBA career, there’s been a lot of pressure, a lot of things thrown at her. She just keeps showing up and getting better every game.
“Her future is very bright. As a veteran and having been in the position for a long, long time, it’s great to see that and look forward to the future.”
