American men’s coach Gregg Berhalter earned $2,291,136 in 2022, including $900,000 in bonuses for the Americans qualifying for the World Cup and reaching the knockout stage.
Berhalter had a base salary of $1,391,136, according to the U.S. Soccer Federation’s 2022 tax return it posted online Wednesday.
Berhalter’s contract expired at the end of 2022 and he was rehired the following June after a law firm cleared him not to withhold information when he was initially hired by the USSF.
The investigation was initiated when the Reyna family informed the USSF of a three-decade-old domestic violence allegation involving Berhalter and the woman who later became his wife.
Among the players, Walker Zimmerman earned $536,792, Sean Johnson $536,002, Cristian Roldan $520,192, Paul Arriola $492,203 and DeAnde Yedlin $488,473.

Former American women’s coach Vlatko Andonovski had a base salary of $396,089 in 2022
U.S. women’s coach Vlatko Andonovski had a base salary of $396,089 (28 percent of Berhalter’s) and earned $15,000 in bonuses. Andonovski resigned last August after the Americans were eliminated in the second round of the Women’s World Cup.
William Wilson, CEO until October 2022, earned $1,045,903. JT Batson, who started as CEO in September 2022, earned $174,695.
Earnie Stewart, who resigned as athletic director in February 2023, earned $799,308.
Women’s GM Kate Markgraf earned $500,000 and Brian McBride, who stepped down as men’s GM in January 2023, earned $348,436.
Markgraf also holds the title of director of women’s football and her duties include interacting with FIFA, CONCACAF and national associations.
Wilson’s predecessor, Dan Flynn, was listed at $72,496 plus $328,360 as other reportable compensation. Flynn is also listed as an ambassador.
