Tyson Fury had a predictably incendiary response to the way the AI-powered judge rated him after his loss to Oleksandr Usyk on Saturday night.
It was announced earlier this week that AI would play a key role in scoring the highly anticipated fight as part of a “groundbreaking experiment” aimed at creating “a story in the making.”
But the Gypsy King had little time for this pioneering innovation after losing a unanimous decision when he stepped into the ring with the Ukrainian for the second time this year.
When the Brit learned how the computers had adjudicated his efforts, Fury was less than impressed.
“Fuck all computers,” Fury said. “More jobs for humans.”
Saudi boxing businessman Turki Alalshikh praised the pre-fight launch of the technology for “revolutionizing boxing” and spoke of how “fair” the new system would prove.
Tyson Fury had a fierce retort over the judge’s score powered by artificial intelligence
The British fighter was once again knocked down by his Ukrainian counterpart in their highly publicized rematch.
The AI judge, a “historic” choice by the event organizers, scored the fight 118-112 in favor of Usyk.
With the final bell in Riyadh, the AI judge deemed Usyk to have won the fight 118-112, with Usyk winning the third, fourth and sixth through eleventh rounds.
Fury was the victor as measured by AI in the second and fifth rounds, with the fighters tied at the beginning and end.
The three human judges scored the fight 116-112 in favor of Usyk, helping the southpaw retain his undisputed status first claimed in May.
But when asked his opinion on the cards immediately after the clash, Fury seemed to believe a different picture.
Speaking to Sky Sports after the fight, he said: ‘I swear to God, I thought I won by three rounds!’
Speaking to ESPN, he added: “I thought I won the fight again, I was Larry Holmesed again.” I was in front the entire time. “When you don’t get the knockout, this is what can happen.”
On the mat after the fight, Usyk seemed bewildered when asked if he thought he deserved to have his hand raised.
“I win,” Usyk said simply, before he was later called out by heavyweight champion Daniel Dubois.
Away from Riyadh, Anthony Joshua was widely ridiculed by his own scorecard, which gave the fight 115-14 to Usyk.
The 35-year-old had given Fury five rounds of the contest and Usyk six, while determining the final round would be a draw.
Immediately after the clash, Fury thought he was the winner “by three rounds.”
But after Usyk raised his hand, the Brit hurried out of the ring away from the crowd.
Fury’s promoter Frank Warren was also disappointed with the way the human and non-human judges had scored the fight.
Followers questioned which fight Joshua was watching, with one claiming the star was still “dizzy” following his knockout loss to Dubois in September.
Frank Warren, Fury’s promoter, also said he was “stunned” by the judges’ decision.
“They gave him four rounds out of 12, which is impossible,” Warren said. ‘I’ve been here a long time and I know I’m biased, but a judge didn’t give him any rounds from the sixth round onwards.
‘How can that be? That’s impossible. It’s crazy. I’m calm and collected, I’m not shouting or screaming, but that’s nonsense.’
