Kevin Morris, the bong-smoking Hollywood lawyer for Hunter Biden, traveled to Serbia to spy on a film production about the president’s son and paid a $2.8 million tax bill on his behalf.
But before becoming publicly entangled in Hunter’s sordid affairs, Morris, 60, was a Hollywood lawyer known for running a prestigious law firm that took on some of the industry’s most high-profile cases and clients.
He negotiated a pair of contracts totaling $1.4 billion for the creators of the satirical cartoon South Park, whom he met at the 1994 Sundance Film Festival.
Their friendship blossomed, and he later won a Tony Award as producer of his hit musical The Book of Mormon.
Throughout his career, Morris has represented various Hollywood elites, including Courtney Cox and Mathew McConaughey, as well as television executive Doug Herzog and producer Tom Lassally.
‘I don’t have much need for lawyers’, Cox said variety during a launch party for one of the lawyer’s books in 2014, “But if I do, I’m going to Kevin.”
This weekend the lawyer who intervened to mitigate the controversy surrounding Hunter heightened it when, during a visit by the president’s son, he was seen smoking a hookah in public view.

Although Morris made his fortune and reputation in West Coast entertainment law, he grew up outside Philadelphia and was raised by a refinery worker and a school secretary, according to a 2007 New York Times profile.
After studying at Cornell and then attending law school at New York University, he moved west around the 1990s, where he began hanging out with entertainment personalities, some of whom became big names.
McConaughey spoke flatteringly of Morris in the 2007 profile, which portrayed the lawyer as a man “rewriting the rules of Hollywood.”
“Still read the scripts I’m going to do before I do it,” McConaughey told The Times.
He came to me to do U-571. She had read it and didn’t want to, but she came out on the beach and pulled me aside, pinned me against a wall, and said, “Read this again.”
Morris later founded the firm Morris Yorn Barnes Levine with Kevin Yorn, who was then an assistant district attorney for Los Angeles County.
His firm represented the likes of McConaughey, Chris Rock, Ellen DeGeneres, and Scarlett Johansson, and helped establish FunnyorDie.com, a comedy site created by Will Ferrell and Adam McKay.
Morris is also a published author, having released a collection of short stories titled ‘White Man’s Troubles’ in 2015, followed by a novel titled ‘All Joe Knight’ in 2016.

But what has put him on the public radar more recently are his close ties to the president’s son, for whom he paid a nearly $3 million tax bill, earning him the title “sugar brother.”
The couple met in December 2019 at a fundraiser for Biden’s presidential campaign, and soon Morris “developed an almost fatherly affection for Mr. Biden.” according to The New York Times.
Although he had not previously publicly disclosed his relationship with the Biden family, Morris’s office told a CBS reporter that the Hollywood lawyer is crafting a “legal and media strategy” for Hunter amid ongoing legal troubles.
One of the criminal charges against Hunter is lying in a 2018 federal weapons form that he was not a user of illicit drugs, when he admitted in his memoirs to being addicted to crack.
He was nicknamed Hunter’s “sugar brother” after he agreed to loan First Son $2.8 million to pay off his tax debts and joined his legal team amid congressional and criminal investigations.
Morris is also waging battles on behalf of First Son, suing the right-wing nonprofit Marco Polo and its founder, former Donald Trump White House staffer Garrett Ziegler, who has been investigating the Biden family.
The lawyer accused Ziegler and his nonprofit organization of harassment, invasion of privacy and “criminal impersonation” in court documents filed in Los Angeles.
In text messages published last year by DailyMail.com, Morris appeared to lose his cool with a Marco Polo agent posing as a potential ally willing to help Hunter’s legal team, calling the trickster a “fucking jerk”, adding: “I’m going to take all your money” and “I know where you live.”

Morris also allegedly dabbled in underhanded tricks to gain information from Hunter’s enemies.
The lawyer was accused of lying to get onto the set of My Son Hunter, a film designed to portray Biden in the worst possible light with stories about his drug use, parties and allegedly corrupt businesses.
Morris flew on a private plane to Serbia, where the film was being shot, claiming he wanted to interview the producers for a documentary he claimed to be making on Biden’s corruption, My Son Hunter producer Phelim McAleer said.
McAleer stated at the time: ‘Now that I know about your portrayal of Hunter Biden, your questions while filming suddenly make a lot of sense. I thought he was just making a documentary, but now it looks like he was deceptively spying for his client Hunter Biden.”
Morris and two colleagues allegedly had full access to the set for several days recording hours of footage for the alleged documentary.
The filmmakers claim that Morris was particularly interested in the content of the film, including the sources of information they had and what they knew about how Hunter’s laptop got into the hands of the media.

Hunter’s visit to Morris came after it was revealed that a Ukrainian oligarch bribed Joe Biden and Hunter with $10 million.

It’s unclear what substance was in Morris’s bong, and recreational marijuana use is legal in California.
Morris was also reportedly behind attempts last year to pressure friendly media organizations into questioning the provenance of Hunter’s abandoned laptop, despite DailyMail.com’s hard drive authentication with top cyber forensics experts in early 2021, and subsequent verification by the Washington Post, New York Times and CBS.
The more proactive legal strategy reportedly caused anxiety in the White House, sources told CNN, with the president’s aides preferring Hunter to remain quiet and discreet.
And more recently, this weekend, the lawyer who stepped in to defuse the controversy surrounding Hunter escalated it when, during a visit by the president’s son, he was seen smoking out of a bong.
While Hunter was at his home, Morris was photographed on a balcony in full view of the public street, appearing to inhale from a white bong.
It’s unclear what substance was in Morris’s bong, and recreational marijuana use is legal in California. He did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
