On January 30 last year, the same day Sam Kerr allegedly racially abused a police officer in London, the superstar striker was on cloud nine.
Chelsea’s goal machine had just scored a hat-trick against Liverpool and the Blues won 3-2 to advance to the fifth round of the Women’s FA Cup.
The clash was played at home in Kingsmeadow, and at full-time, Kerr posted a picture on Instagram from the ground alongside his now-fiancee, Kristie Mewis.
“We move on to the next round,” Kerr wrote then, while both footballers hugged each other smiling on the side of the field.
What allegedly happened hours later will now play out in court, with Kerr accused of using insulting, threatening or abusive words which caused alarm or distress to a police officer during an alleged incident in Twickenham, south-west London, on 30 January of last year.

Shortly after full time, a beaming Kerr posted an image on Instagram from the ground with Mewis, which read “on to the next round.”
The loved-up couple uploaded a cryptic post when Catarina Macario, Kerr’s replacement as he recovers from an ACL injury, entered Chelsea’s fight against Leicester in a league match on March 4.
The 30-year-old woman, who was wearing a white T-shirt under a black suit jacket when she appeared at Kingston Crown Court via video link, spoke only to confirm her identity and plead not guilty to the charge on Monday.
Kerr was informed that she is required to attend a four-day trial, scheduled for next February, during which two police officers are expected to give evidence.
Judge Judith Elaine Coello said it was understood that the footballer’s defense would be that his intention was not to bother the police officer.
“My understanding of the defense is that she did not intend to cause alarm, harassment or distress to the officer, (her behavior) did not extend to him and was not racially aggravated,” the judge asked Kerr’s lawyer, Grace Forbes.
The charge comes as Kerr, who has scored 99 goals in 128 games for Chelsea since joining the club in 2019, is sidelined with an anterior cruciate ligament injury suffered during the club’s training camp in Morocco in January. .
Kerr has won four Women’s Super League titles with Chelsea, as well as three FA Cups, two Women’s League Cups and the Women’s Community Shield in 2020.
Last November, Kerr and his professional partner Kristie Mewis, 32, who currently plays for West Ham United, confirmed they were engaged to be married.
Meanwhile, the beloved couple uploaded a cryptic post When Catarina Macario entered the fight with Chelsea against Leicester in a league match on March 4.
Macario, 24, has been sidelined for 641 days with an ACL injury and marked his debut for the Blues with a goal in the sixth minute.
