- Anthony Joshua to face Daniel Dubois for IBF heavyweight title this month
- Boxing fans in the US will enjoy the pay-per-view event at a significant discount
- Price cuts are part of Turki Alalshikh’s plans to tackle illegal streaming
The Anthony Joshua vs Daniel Dubois fight will cost less than £20 worldwide on PPV, which is a significant discount for US fans.
The fight, which will take place at a sold-out Wembley stadium, will put Dubois’ IBF heavyweight title on the line.
The belt was previously held by Oleksandr Usyk after he became the division’s first undisputed champion in more than two decades by defeating Tyson Fury earlier this year.
Following his victory, Usyk was stripped of the belt and Dubois’ interim title was elevated to full weight, opening up the possibility of Joshua becoming only the fifth man in history to be a three-time heavyweight champion.
While the clash is attracting significant attention, fans on the other side of the Atlantic have been delighted to discover the price of the PPV.
Anthony Joshua’s upcoming showdown with Daniel Dubois will cost less than £20 worldwide on PPV
The price represents a significant reduction for American fans who often pay more than $70 for events.
Viewers in the US will be able to purchase the event for just $19.99, which is a significant price cut.
For comparison, Canelo Alvarez’s showdown with Edgar Berlanga will cost fans $89.99.
The price reduction comes after His Excellency Turki Alalshikh laid out plans to tackle illegal streaming and make boxing more accessible by drastically reducing the price of PPVs.
Speaking to talkSPORT earlier this week, he explained: ‘I dream of a PPV that is priced well to make fans happy and get them to subscribe and be able to watch it legally.
‘Usually when I see a high PPV, a lot of people are going to watch the fight illegally and that’s not healthy for boxing or the platform.
‘What I’m going to try to push for is that our Riyadh Season shows will cost less than £20 in England and less than $20 worldwide…
The decision is part of His Excellency Turki Alalshikh’s plan to combat illegal transmission
‘I’d rather have a million fans subscribed and buying the PPV for £20 than less than 500,000 (for £40).
‘People are circling around him illegally because the price is high. In the future, this will not generate boxing.
