A report in Spain claims that Lionel Messi helped rescue an Argentine grandmother from Hamas kidnappers.

On the fateful morning of October 7, Hamas launched an attack on Israel, and approximately 250 Israeli citizens and soldiers were taken hostage to Gaza.

And, according to the Spanish media brandEster Cunio, 90, found herself at the center of an ordeal with eight members of her family when armed intruders burst into her home in the Israeli Kibbutz Nir Oz.

When armed men demanding the whereabouts of her family confronted Cunio, the grandmother’s declaration that she was Argentine, coupled with the fact that she loved soccer and Messi, caused a change in the attacker’s behavior.

“I told him that I speak in Argentine, in Spanish,” he allegedly said. ‘I didn’t understand their language. The Arabic language and I speak bad Hebrew.

‘I speak Argentinian Spanish, so he asks me what Argentina is. So I say, “Do you watch football?” He said he liked it and I told him I’m from Messi’s country.

“He was surprised and told me that he loves Messi. He put his arm on my shoulder, gave me his gun, made me do the peace sign and they took my photo.

However, although Cunio was saved, the ordeal caused his grandchildren to be held captive.

And the 90-year-old asked for Messi’s help to ensure her relatives return home.

And he added: ‘If he (Lionel) knows that I mentioned it and he was saved, now I would ask about my grandchildren who are locked up there.

“I would tell him to please pray to God because they are guys worth gold.”

Although the story has circulated in Spain, there has so far been no comment from Messi’s side regarding the incident.
