Ruben Amorim’s true thoughts on Manchester United’s performance in the 1-1 draw against Ipswich have been revealed.
The Portuguese manager took charge of his first game since replacing Erik ten Hag on Sunday, and the Red Devils got off to the perfect start when Marcus Rashford put them ahead within two minutes.
But a deflected goal from Omari Hutchinson slowed them down and Amorim and his team were forced to settle for a point.
According the sunSince then, Amorim has rated his team’s performance with a score of 10 and has no doubt that there is much room for improvement.
“Amorim said his performance was a five out of 10,” a source told The Sun.
‘He criticized one or two players for losing the ball and not being in the right positions. But he also said, “Some of you I’ve had for two days, some of you two weeks,” so he was realistic.
Rubén Amorim would have given his Manchester United player a five out of 10 for his performance at Ipswich.
United drew 1-1 at Portman Road in Amorim’s first game in charge.
“He said they were going to have to learn quickly.”
Amorim used his favored 3-4-3 formation immediately at Portman Road instead of the 4-2-3-1 system that Ten Hag usually adopted.
Analyzing Sunday’s game on Monday Night Football, Jamie Carragher pointed out some “weaknesses” that Amorim will need to address if he is to turn around United’s fortunes.
‘I listen to many managers, including Ruben Amorim say that systems don’t matter too much. I think so, no matter how many times managers tell me no because, well, why do you play with a different system? “Different systems offer different things in different areas,” Carragher said.
‘For me, the weaknesses are in these spaces here, on either side of the two central midfielders. The reason is that, when you play with a conventional back four, your open man can help.
“But because you play with three defenders, when they receive the ball, they naturally widen and the full-backs widen and go up.”
“This means there is a lot more space around these two central midfielders, especially if the two attackers do not drop back. There were the same problems on the Ipswich side as well.
“The big problem is: is it a midfielder who should occupy that space or should a centre-back intervene alongside someone?”
Amorim implemented his 3-4-3 formation immediately against Ipswich, but Jamie Carragher believes there are “weaknesses” that the new United manager must now address
“We listened to Ruben Amorim after the game and he talked a lot about Jonny Evans not jumping into space to pick up a man. Because they were playing the same system, it almost became a man-to-man game. Football has become that “.
Amorim will have little time on the training ground to convey his philosophy to his players as matches come quickly in the run-up to Christmas.
Their first game at Old Trafford will take place on Thursday when United face Bodo/Glimt in the Europa League, and then host Everton three days later.
Trips to Arsenal and local rivals Manchester City also await in December, while a Carabao Cup quarter-final clash against Tottenham is just weeks away, giving Amorim an early chance to challenge for silverware at United.
