Deion Sanders pocketed an extra $250,000 last December following Colorado’s losing season.
According to USA Today, the school paid Sanders the massive bonus as a thank you for generating $343 million in “earned media value.”
He was reportedly paid the sum on December 1, less than a week after his team played its last game.
“The employee recognition bonus is a discretionary bonus awarded by Athletic Director Rick George for the immense impact Coach Prime has had on the football program, athletic department and university in his first season,” the Boulder-based school said in a statement.
The outlet noted that the school generated $87 million in earned media value in 2022, meaning Sanders helped increase that figure nearly fourfold in 2023.

The Buffaloes finished the season Only 1-8 despite being significant star power in his son, quarterback Shedeur Sanders, and first-team All-Pac-12 wide receiver and cornerback Travis Hunter.
Deion’s son, Shilo, is also on the team and has been making a name for himself outside of the sports world.

“They were introduced by a mutual acquaintance during Meech’s time in Atlanta while Deion was playing for the Falcons,” Starz said in an email. according to USA Today.
