The Marco Reus era at BVB may be coming to an end. Dortmund’s sports director Sebastian Kehl confirmed on Wednesday that the future of the long-time top performer at Borussia is still in the stars.
What’s next for Marco Reus at BVB? And does it go on at all? After eleven years in the black and yellow jersey, the future of the attacking midfielder is still uncertain. The veteran’s contract expires after the season. Discussions about an extension have already taken place, but have not led to a result.
“We’re not that far yet,” confirmed sports director Sebastian Kehl to “Sky” on Wednesday. When asked whether a new offer from the club for Reus after his poor performance in the top game against FC Bayern may be hanging in the balance, the former professional became clear. “I think that both parties have known each other for a long time and you can’t make a general orientation or a contract extension dependent on a game,” said Kehl.
At the same time, the sports director also emphasized that there could actually be a separation. “I don’t know how it will end yet,” he said, referring to the negotiation poker between Reus and those responsible.
Are Reus and BVB still separating two million euros?
“Sky” had previously reported that there had been a rapprochement between the player and the club. BVB is said to have slightly improved its offer, and Reus, in return, approached the club slightly, it said.
“Sport Bild” then published concrete figures and claimed that Borussia wanted to offer their captain a strongly performance-related contract with an annual salary of six million euros. However, Reus is demanding at least eight million euros.
Rumors of a Reus change had picked up speed, especially after the winter break. In this context, the 33-year-old was associated with Manchester United and clubs in Saudi Arabia, among other things.
