A former prosecutor and retired judge committed suicide Tuesday as the FBI arrived at his home in New York to arrest him.
Stewart Rosenwasser died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound during an FBI raid on his Campbell Hall home.
Police sources said that ABC News that the authorities had arrived at his home as part of an investigation into a corruption case.
According to an FBI statement after the shooting, there was an exchange of gunfire between Rosenwasser and the agents.
The agency said: ‘The FBI is investigating an agent-involved shooting that occurred this morning in Campbell Hall, New York. The FBI takes all shooting incidents involving our agents very seriously.
“In accordance with FBI policy, the shooting incident is being reviewed by the FBI’s Inspection Division. As this is an ongoing matter, we have no further details to provide.”

Rosenwasser was facing an impending lawsuit over $48,000 in bribes he allegedly accepted, according to the Times Union.
The outlet says he had taken money from Moutz “Marty” Soudani, the victim of a $1.9 million theft and embezzlement case that Rosenwasser prosecuted.
Just hours after his death, the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York unsealed an indictment against the two men, accusing them of participating in a bribery scheme.
Prosecutors say Rosenwasser accepted even more than the complaint alleges, a total of $63,000.
Both were charged with conspiracy to commit bribery, conspiracy to commit honest services wire fraud, and honest services wire fraud.
Rosenwasser was also charged with extortion and making false statements to the FBI after being interviewed in June.
Three days after his interview, he abruptly resigned from his job at the District Attorney’s Office where he had worked for five years.
